We have a 42cc launched in March 2006. It is the only one in NZ and I would welcome the opportunity to communicate with other owners. It is possibly the only Burgundy hull as we had it painted from new.

Boyd, glad to hear you got it fixed. Thanks for the update.

Pleased to report that my buddy Claude Lafleur, with some help from me, got the fiberglass water tank leak repaired. We cut a large hole in the lid and filled two 'worm holes' caused by some poor workmanship when the tank was glassed in.

Boyd, looks like Harry is familiar with the problem and fix. Good luck with it and let us know how it goes.

PS: I guess I should have started a discussion instead of the just commenting when I first posed my question. :-()

Here was my question to Beneteau:'I am trying to resolve a problem with a leaking forward water tank in a 42CC Oceanis Clipper. Based on the schematic on the Beneteau website, it appears the tank is integral with the hull structure with a lid then glassed in. Part # 055440 appears to me to be a lid and not a complete tank. Is this,in fact, how the tank is constructed? Can the lid be removed to repair a leak in the bottom of the tank and then be replaced, or is a new lid required?

And here is the answer:'You are correct. The tank is part of the interior liner of the boat. 055440 is the lid for the tank. If the lid remove (sic) carefully you can clean it and reuse it.'

However, upon closer inspection, it's clear to me the top is not glassed in but probably sits on a ledge around the top of the tank and is sealed with some kind of semi-rigid compound. A buddy (Claude Lafleur on Seaknots) is going to help me tackle the problem later this month. We intend to fully document everything with notes and photos. I am not currently on board, so I can't offer any new observations. Thanks to Harry and Mike for some great input.

I have seen the problem you are describing in the 42cc’s and 423’s. Unless your hull is still under warranty you are pretty much on your own. Perhaps Beneteau would send you a drawing which will give you a better idea of what you’re working with.
Repairs have been successfully made. In these cases, access was gained by carefully cutting through the top cover to get to the top of the tank. Once there, a large diameter 7” hole saw is used to get into the tank itself. A Watertight Locker Door Type TCL/4 can be used to cover the hole once the repair has been completed. The choice of repair materials is up to the owner. Splash has been successfully in some cases. By no means use any sealants like 4200 or 5200…. Good luck..

Foster, use the NMEA 0183 plug. My E120 came with a short data cable that I connected to apx 30' of standard data cable. Unless your AIS indicates a different baud rate make sure you set it to 38400. You'll find the setting in Systems Setup. Mike

Did Hampton last year and relly enjoyed it. They have a town marina there with lots of transit slips or you can drop the hook right there off the town marina docks (green top) and go to shore via dingy dock. There is a very nice hotel and lots of ...

James, it sounds like a great plan. I hope you'll be able to do al if not some of it. As you said even a portion of it would be wonderful. My job would permit me to do the same thing but unfortunately my wife's does not. Eventually we'd like to do...
