How do old glassfibre boats age?
My name is Peter. Retired.
I want to buy an older (25-30 Years) glassfibre sailboat and after two to three years of use sell it, with the feeling I im not fooling the buyer.
Theoretically, when plastic ages, it should loose elasticity. On the long term it would shrink and develop cracks, become brittle, while the glassfibre may hold everything in place or break.
Has anybody experienced if this can be felt? Maybe heard, perhaps with groans or squeaking… Continue

Three days ago, we stepped off the plane in Antigua and the tropics hit us in the face. The smells of the Caribbean arrived on warm, tropical breezes. Al’s bags didn’t arrive! Claudia and I carried our baggage on, so that wasn’t a problem for us. Al’s insulin was in his bag so he had to watch his sugar intake. By the time we got to the marina, the tiki bar was open. Al got a wrm reception from the b ar’s owner, Alicia, who said she owed him some money so we had a rum, two… Continue

Change of Seasons
Now that I live in the south, you would think that the weather is sunny, warm, and beautiful all year round. Well, as I've come to find out, that isn't necessarily true. The mercury has been fluctuating almost as wildly as the market lately. It's hard to believe it's December. Tomorrow, day after Thanksgiving, we're off! Boarding "Second Wind" for a fourth time. The first time we were o/b was 3 years ago. We boarded her at Clarencetown, Long Island, Bahamas. crew available
anyone interested in sharing expenses and enjoying acasual trip to and thru the carib in 2009 aboard a well equipped IP 31. Have no timetable or destination and open to suggestions. Colgate's Basic Sailing
I'm busy studying the course material that the Offshore Sailing School has sent me. My course is on 22-24 April 2009. The initial basics I found quite easy. ASA 104 Bareboat Charter
So I just returned this evening from a weekend aboard a newer Hunter 34 in Galveston Bay. Boy, the winds were honking on Friday night starting around 1030pm and didn't let up much until Sunday morning. We were screaming at over 7 kts on a run with the tide down the Houston Ship Channel and must have beaten a record for the sailing school in time getting down there.

sailing in cold weather

I want to sail with my wife in the Vancouver area 2009 June to August. We saw three years ago from a ferry:
The region has fantastic landscapes looking from the sea.
Who has experiennce how to handle the coldness?
Of course, oils, gloves, stove, ...but the rest, like keeping a ventilation while the stove heats.
will a stove burn/heat when the boat rolls?
