Happy to be aboard this relavant group, excellent idea to have this. As a solo-cruising/sailing/liveaboard woman with my own vessel (Bayfield Cutter 31'), I feel a bit outnumbered by the fellows. It's nice to know that a supportive network of sister sailors are out there. I usually spend winter season in Keys area and write a monthly sailing adventure and travel column for Southwinds Magazine. Drop a line if you sail down this way:) -Rebecca

I also shared in ownership once and agree it needs to be clearly put on paper, because sooner or later a disagreement will occur or one will begin to feel an imbalance. With the right person and understanding, I think it can be a workable means to having a nice boat.

Unfortunately, the one time we shared ownership we lost the friendship. My Dad taught me friends are friends and business is business. Have an agreement and talk, talk, talk to each other before you do anything. Our biggest problem was there were times we wanted to sail without him and he didn't like that.

Looks like I found the right group.... I have some experience...but have always wanted more. Unfortunately, life, work, and family comittments ( along with other hobbies) sometimes gets in the way. I'm considering part-ownership in a sailboat... nothing big - probably 30 or less. The friend who wants to share the ownership says he can do most of the work, but I'm stilll leary.. have any of you shared ownership? any advice or thoughts? thanks

Hey Bobbi - just saw your comment! Yeah, we were especially happy to beat the boat of guys who said that they wanted to make sure they finished in front of 'that babe boat!'

I am so impressed with the membership on this site. I looks like we have been getting 1 to 2 female sailors a day. Very impressive indeed.

I joined this group a little while ago and at the time didn't introduce myself.....I have a moment finally. I am living aboard here in Boston. I have been living aboard for 6 years now. This was my first season as a single hander and I have had an absolutely wonderful time. My season is coming to an end and feel fairly confident with my boat, a Pearson 424, ketch rigged. I still have a lot to learn and hope to never stop learning. Getting to know the systems aboard has taken alot of my time this year. I have gotten out a number of times alone and with crew. I also have taken other people out on their boats too, which has been fun and more of an adventure then on my own vessel. I am glad to see this group start up I think it will be helpful to us all. Thanks for starting it Lola. Next summer I will be starting back up with getting out there. I am glad to meet you all also ~ Barbara

Hi gals,
I'm so glad I found this site. There are so few resources out there that pertain to us female sailors. Thanks, Lola. I have a blog that presents a somewhat irreverant view of this life we lead. It's called a First Mate's Rules of the Road and the url address is http://firstmatemary.blogspot.com. I'll try to post a link but I've been having trouble with that. I definitely do not want to take away from this site but if you're like me you surf several sites for all the information and friendship you can find. I would love for you to share your experiences. Once again, I'm glad to meet you all.
