Connections in Miami, in November

Posted on September 20, 2009 at 10:30pm 6 Comments

My daughter and I decided to meet up in Miami in the middle of November for vacation. (We are both flying - gratuitous remarks about windward 747s go here...) We are arriving around the 14th. So we are looking to meet up with folks, hopefully find some gentle soul who would like to take us sailing for a day, or a few days, interesting places to stay, things to do, etc.

Jeepers!! I have an opportunity to buy something close to my 'dream' cruising boat - at least in the sense of having all the equipment, all the capabilities, and all in reasonable shape. The boat has been around the world. It's also big - bigger than anything I had planned on for some time if ever - officially 44 feet but that includes a 4 foot bowsprit and about two feet of reverse transom (like most modern sailboats.

Welcome Luana Vaupotic

Posted on January 9, 2009 at 11:12am 0 Comments

My friend Luana Vaupotic has joined SeaKnots. She's fairly new at this sailing thing too, so everyone give her a big hello!

As for me, I'm pondering what I might say to a doctor to get an Rx to move to USVI 'for my health'. I have another cold, there's crusty snow everywhere, and we're getting another eight inches of snow this weekend. Sigh.

Agree on the practicing. Dave, Norine & I had to do MOB's and be tested to get helmsman cert. on the lake..but we should always practice. Have only hove to once in storm in BVI's, not sure how possible that would have been once the shyt hit the fan..maybe could have once we were in running position..have to replay that one in my mind..not enuf exp. with. Yes, was a good time...nobody needed stitches. :-)
