I also have sent the token cell phone into the dark, But after using the net to beat back the creatures of the deep I dumped the offending unit into a pan of fresh water, dried it off with a paper towl, removed the battery, and then put the cell phone and the battery into a bag of uncooked rice for a couple of weeks. After a bit of time and a long recharge it came back to normal. The only change is that it stays at home and the cheap Trakfone goes with me to the boat.

I dropped my cell phone 12 miles out in the pacific. I think the batteries have gone dead because the fish have stopped calling from it.

I have a water proof, floating VHF. That has two existing benefits from what I can tell: a) i can rinse it off at the end of the day. b) if it goes over board, some lucky guy on a beach somewhere is going to end up with a great VHF!

Carrying the baby aboard for his first 'sailing experience' I heard a crack against the deck, but did not see anything when I looked down. It wasn't until packing up that evening that we realized that it was my blackberry that had taken the plunge.

my ericson is on a mooring---the potential buyer coming to see her topday wasnt so water savvy anymore---used to have a boat but not anymore----he fell into the water between dink and sloop and got bluetooth earpiece and fone and camera wet and i wasnt able to fish him out--i had to tow him to another boat--- a friends - and have him climb the ladder there----good thing is a warm day today---

Haven't seen much activity on this page lately, but spring is here and we will al be back on the water before long and that means more cell phones in the water. I, however managed to leave my cell phone plugged in in my hotel in Chicago last week!!!! Remembered it on the way to the airport but it was too late to go back. The hotel mailed it to me!!! Was in Chicago during St. Parick's Day...what a blast...

We were in the BVI's last year, to celebrate our 30th anniversary, and spent a night at Jost Van Dyke. I decided to take the dinghy over to Foxy's to get some ice. My husband came along, to give me a hand. I wouldn't let him help though, because I wanted to see if I could handle the dinghy myself. As I was tossing a line over the piling on the dock, I lost my balance and fell right into the water (I had just showered and was even wearing clean clothes!) My cell phone was in my small back pack. Needless to say, it was ruined immediately. I watched my favorite flip flops begin to float away, but I was able to retrieve them. The worst part of the story is: Foxy's was closed that day. So no ice, and now, now phone. Oh well, it made a good story when we got back!

Last February I sliped getting off my boat and fell in with my phone on my belt. well the salt water ruined my phone and I had to get a new one. I look at new phones and found a water resistant phone it's made by Casio. The salesperson told me it was good at 5 feet for 15 minutes, so I bought it. About a month after I bougth my new phone, me and a few friends dinked over to a local restaurant for dinner. We had a great dinner and a few to many drinks. When I was sliding off the dock to get in the dinghy my phone that was clipped no my belt hung on the dock and fell into about 5 feet of water. Well, a water resistent phone isn't worth much if you can't retrieve it. So I striped down to my tighty white'ies and got wet to my knees. The water was way to cold for me so I said just forget about it. Then my wife Lisa said she would try, she got in with clothes on, and no luck finding the phone. Then a friend of mine, Glen, said he would go in for it. Now this guy is from Nova Scotia he's no stranger to cold, I think he's half Viking. Anyway he strips down and does a back roll off the dinghy and comes up with the phone. It still work fine. I haven't seen one that floats.

Gaye, That just sucks!!!! That must be why I didn't hear from you...lol. I looked for your boat, but obviously wasn't successful. Sorry for your mishap, even more sorry that we weren't able to meet up. Had a great time, and hope that you did. Maybe next year!!!!
Or perhaps somewhere on the Bay before then.
Had two great days of sailing, Sunday and Monday on two different boats, my Columbia Sabre, and the Canadian Sailcrafter that I bought for a dollar, rebottomed and sold to my boss. Great little boat the CS27.

Last weekend during the Urbanna Oyster Festival, I dropped it in the cockpit and accidentally kicked it off the back!!! No phone for the entire weekend.
