After all the looking and the survey is done on both boats, I would have to lean towards the Cherubini. I am not familiar with the Pearson, but the reputation of the Cherubini's cannot be questioned. I have done some offshore sailing in a Cherubin...
Beginning to look like maybe Ana isn't gonna amount to much, and Bill is now predicted to sort of head up the east coast, and maybe stay far enough off shore to not do any major damage. So, lets keep our fingers crossed, pray to all the Sea Gods, ...
LOLA
Go ahead and spring for the transducer for the 440 you bought. These are the same as I have on a 498 and are very very good, and accurate. Have a keel offset function so you can read actual depth, or depth under the keel. There is absolutely ...
Thats a pretty good list, and I would think any of these would do fine. Most I know of only by reputation, and have not sailed any of them offshore for any extended period. The Choey Lee and the Formosa would probably be at the top of my list amon...
Dances,
While I agree with the others who recommend a below decks, high tech pilot, as being better and much stronger, I just don't think you need anything that robust on a 28, that weighs 7500 lbs. Of course you can spend two or three times the m...
There are not a lot of choices these days in the wheel pilots for smaller boats. The X-5 is supposed to be the cats meow, is plenty big enough for your boat, and had a course gyro built in. Not sure what that is exactly, but it eliminates the need ...
I am in total agreement. And the KISS principal is a very good practice to follow. While the 1 - 2 - both battery switches seem to currently be out of favor, they have been around for a very long time, and work well. About the only thing you need ...
CommodoreSwab,
That sure sounds like an overcomplicated set up. And as for using a common bus with the plan of unbolting one bank should something happen, I don't think you realize how quickly an electrical fire can spring up, should something hap...
Lola,
That is a question that will more than likely get at least 20 replies, each of them different. There are some new anchors out there now, ( Manson and Rocna ) that are supposed to be the cat's meow. The magic answer to all your anchoring prob...
Bill,
I have recently switched from Group 31 to the 6v golf cart batteries. Have only had them a year, but so far so good. I have the Sams Clubbers, which for 300 bucks gives me a 450 ah bank. About as much bang for the buck as is out there. I don...
Bill,
I think most of the shorter life stuff is primarily a sales pitch. Think about it for a minute. You do nothing different with the old way, except control where the charging voltage from the alternator goes. There is no voltage change, nothin...
While many believe in all the new fangled stuff, like echo chargers, and isolators and combination charger/inverters, I'm not one of these. I have a 450ah house bank, and a single group 29 start/emergency battery. I use a simple 1 - 2 - both batte...
Hi Phil, thanks for the news and invite. We want to sail with ya'll from Slidell to at least Lulu's, maybe Pensacola. Depends on how the boat's doing, if Mike finishes up the improvements, and other stuff. Who's John & Martha? Since they're in our neck of the woods, we'd love to meet them. Give 'em my email, gnadas2@gmail.com, or they can comment here on SeaKnots...whatever. How's Monte? Is he going to be able to make it? Haven't seen his boat lately. Gina & Mike
Thanks for your message. Sorry to hear about Monte. We didn't stay at Rabbit because there was someone in the only spot that afforded protection from the winds (were picking up) and enough swing room. Glad we didn't stay since the knats were bad going up the Rigolets. We stayed at Phil's in Oak Harbor. Had a great meal and left next day. Then stayed at Brady Is., though we wanted to stay at "the beach" at the entrance of the Tchefuncte, but the crowds on a Sat. afternoon are terrible. We deployed the dink next morning and explored the Brady Is. area. Good enough first trip out into the MS Sound, but we're looking forward to the next trip to savor the barrier islands. Guess we'll meet you sometime!

I read that if a wave approaches the size of your beam, then you may be toppled. But I think that frequency and shape of the wave matter too. In canoe hulls they talk about primary and secondary stability. My Bayfield is 29' with 10'2" beam; most ...
these are sunrises and moonsets and sailing in the gulf --our last day , plus a few shots of ida's water level--lol...all mixed up - i have to rearrange them ...LOL
