John, the white flexible hose is a better way to put it. The hose that had the permiated (sp?) smelling problem went from the holding tank out. I had no problem with the black hose from the toilette to the holding tank. If you put your nose up to the white hose you should smell it.

Also, make sure your vent is not plugged.

Also, I use fresh water to flush with. Sea water can cause be a culprit.

Nauticalrich,
I'm not sure I know what you mean by "white" piping. Are you referring to water system or sanitation system hoses?

Ooops, just read the rotten egg sinerio.
I had the smell in my hot water. Ended up being the Zinc was eaten up and caused a rotten egg smell. Only when I ran the water.

John, I had similar odor problem and ended up removing and replacing all white piping. If you find it is your pipes, use a electric heat gun to help get them off.
Also wear gloves as the smell will get into your skin.

Other problem I had was the valve in the toilet pump. Its rubber and became somewhat deformed. It would let some of the remaining waste in pipe flow back into the bowl including smell.

Pete,
The smell is like rotten eggs or sewage. I thought it was coming from my holding tank but it seems to be isolated mostly on the port side. Its strongest underneath the settee and V-berth. Atmospheric conditions don't seem to change it.

I thought it was my holding tank so I've been treating it with holding tank chemicals, but it seems to persist.

John, I think you'll have to be a bit more specific about your boat's odor problem. Like, for starters, what does it smell like? Does it only stink under certain atmospheric conditions and not others (damp vs. dry, etc)? How strong is it? These are just a few for starters.

Is anyone having an odor problem with their Oday. I've tried a lot of things and can't seem to make any progress. The odor seems to emit from the bow, extending down under the port side settee. It doesn't seem to effect the starboard side.

Scott I would love to hear more about the days when Odays were being built. I've heard that many of the molds were sold to a Japanese boat maker and that they actually made Odays in Japan. Is that true?

I think its great that there's a group just for us Oday owners. Our's is a 1984 Oday 30.

looking forward to talking to fellow O'day owners, the factory where they made them is only 15 mi. from here. I'm friends with a fellow that worked in the plant for a number of years, when they sold to Pearson he bought many patterns and parts for O'days
