John, I only have one vent hose coming out of the tank.
Go over to the Odayowners.com or sailboatowners.com and check in with the head mistress.

nauticalrich,
My holding tank has a vent hose coming out of each end of the tank then joined with a t-joint to a single vent hose going to the exterior vent. Is that typical?

John, did you find it? I believe your holding tank, like mine, is under the the v birth. Check for leakage, vent, and trace piping back.
Good luck and let us know if you find it.

nauticalrich, I did run bleach through the fresh water system several months ago and that didn't seem to help. The odors don't seem to be originating in the sink areas, they are strongest underneath the hatches in the settee and the v-berth.

You can run bleach into your fresh water tank and then run through all faucets.

Remember, I had a rotten egg smell from the hot water tank due to the zinc being eaten up. Run the the hot water faucet and smell the water. If it smells like rotten egges it could be the tank. I removed the valve and put in a new zinc. Also when I had the valve out I put a hand pump in and pumped out the residue in the bottom of the tank.

That was the end of that smell.

Don't forget to check the sink drain for a smell. Could be plugged.
Anyway, check it all out before you replace hoses.

The nose should know.

Good Luck

Hello to O'Day Corner members - I just found this by accident and am thrilled to have a forum with other O'Day owners. We have a 1987 O'Day 40' -named YOUNGSTER with our home port in Kent Narrows, MD (Eastern shore)..
Would loveto hear from other O'Day 40 owners to exchange info.

Nauticalrich,
Thanks for the tip. I think the white flexible hose from the holding tank had already been replaced with a black hose. I do have clear hose running to the vent. I'm wondering if that might be the culprit.

I do have flexible hose running to my fresh water tank. I'll have to check that one closely. Maybe I should just change out all my hoses. Again, thanks for the tip.
