I slipped getting off the boat at a very high tide. The freeboard is rather high on my boat so I had to climb down off her, and I was holding on to a pile and part of the fending system gave way and in I went..lost the phone and a PDA in one splash. Ouch!

Friday Drac Verd was hauled out. i went back to take off some small fenders from the dock. I had put the Blackberry in a side pouch pocket but did not button it so as I leaned over out it came and slowly floated down. I grabbed a net but only retrieved mud!.
It is my second in 3 years! I had insurance but the deductable is $130!!
i feel a little wierd being out of touch as I travel around. Sort like "The Invisible Man"! How many remeber him??

After 1 cellphone, 1 pager, and a full set of keys I finally decided to use my boat bag the way it was intended to be used. Upon locking the car/truck, I clip my keys onto the internal clip built into the inside pocket of the bag then I put my cell phone and anything else I don't want to fall in the water inside the bag and then zip the top shut. Nothing lost in several years now...
2 years ago I dropped mine in at my dock. We were raising the mast and I had it in my shirt pocket and bent over. It fell on the cabin roof and slid down to the deck. I thought great it will not go into the water WRONG! It slid on the deck jumped over the toe rail and splashed down. I never was able to find it and the fish were able to use it for a number of hours before the battery died. This was the second one in 5 years and when I bought it I got one that was said to be water resistant so I figured the fish were using it after it went for the swim. My replacement was also water resistant as I bought insurance to cover the loss of the phone and the carrier replaced the lost one with a newer model.
I usually take the phone out of my pocket when I go aboard but forgot that time.

I have not dropped the cell as of yet but have had other items go overboard.
My good friend Logan's sunglasses inspired a short speech I give to every new passenger aboard my boat.
I warned him to be mindful of the jib as I tacked but unfortunately the sail had decided to sacrifice his sunglasses to Poseidon as an offering.
I watched helplessly as it happened and asked sheepishly..."$20?"
He replied, "$200...Italian"
yep .... on knees, leaning over the pier and you hear that 'splash' and think - hmmm, now what was that? .... then as you rise and realize something's missing, hand on waist - It's Not There! ...... suddenly this rush comes over you as though you've lost someone close to you, and you realize you don't know anyones #'s - they're all in that phone ... in the water. .... The Insurance with a cell phone is a good bet, I guess - although I haven't yet. My new habbit is to remove it and place on the nav station as soon as I get on the boat.
is good to be prepared!!!! just in case.......most everyone i know has done this at some time--i used to drop pagers in the water...but they didnt cost as much as fones do!!
