Hey Debbie,
Thanks for the kind words about my books. I hope you enjoy Cross Current. I've been working for a couple of years on a new thriller that features a female singlehander on her 40-footer in the Caribbean. Her name is Riley. Because it's new and different and not a Seychelle book, it's taking me longer, but I think it's going to be my best book so far. I hope you'll be willing to wait.
Enjoy sailing with your son. Mine is 24 and although he grew up on boats and sailed until he was 13, now he's not so crazy about boats. I hope that will change one day. I'd love to cruise with him for a while. I envy you.

well i have a tx to fly to palm beach on the 13th. my sons boat is in palm city. the previous oner had it docked on a private dock. its so funny to me when i look at the area on google earth. its very different from calif. we have land and we have coast.he cant stay on the boat where it is so he is in a motel waiting for high tide when he can move it. he has been there since new years and the earliest he can haul out is the 9th when the tide will be high enough. its hard for me to imagine what its like there. i am soooo excited to sail in new territory i just cant wait. we dont much of a plan, i'm not sure how much i can see in a month but i'm really looking forward to new experience. i haven't sailed myself much since the end of oct when i was caught in horrible santa ana winds and was very scared, i could picture myself on the news being lifted by a helicopter and leaving my boat [home] out there in the storm. it was the most uncomfortable 8 hrs of my life. it should have been a 8 hr sail and it was 14 hrs and grueling. i was lucky to have a neighbor/friend on board or i dont know what could have happened. it mostly proved to me i need a better boat! one of my friends told me i need to get a boat with balls as big as mine. i thought that was cute. for a female with no formal boat education and never even boarded a sailboat until i was 36 yrs old i have been pretty ballsy. i love being out there and wish i could try it for year or more to see if it i love it as much as i think. well gals i'll keep you informed as my plot thickens. happy sails, debbie ps christine, i am taking cross current with me then i've read all your books so you need to write another one.

For me I got into sailing later in life, over 20 years ago. I bought a Tanzer 22 on a whim. It was love at first sail. I sailed and raced her for over 4 years. Being in the military at the time I got transfered overseas where my sailing habit to a vacation for a number of years. When I rotated back to the states I started racing again on other peoples boat for the next ten years. I charter a few boats in between. I decided a few years back to get some formal education and took the ASA courses to gain confidence in my sailing skills. Since than I have bought and sold a few boats until my current boat, Hunter 36, where I live-aboard part time in Miami. I single hand most of the time now since crews are hard to find. Future plans are to sell this boat in about 2-3 years and buy my dream boat to sail around the world in my retirement.

to answer all the asked and unasked questions put to me in the past weeks--i am a sailor--i was taught from an early age to be a sailor by a tallshipman who sailed round the world in tallships, merchant marine as well as navy---whose great-grandfather--and my great-great grandfather --founded great lakes shipping company and owned it until the 1950s. i am still a SAILOR and enjoy the sea more than i enjoy people...
i was taught the rules of the sea and of those traversing the sea----one aids those in distress or in need of being assisted---fpor the assistancee i was given, there has been appreciation verbalized and meant wholeheartedly....
i was also taught to judge not lest thee be judged. many have forgotten these good words.....many have also forgotten the wording and reality of the golden rule---which i choose to live ......happy sailing and fair winds to all the sailors on this board....

Terri,
To answer your question about how long I've been sailing means to admit how old I am! My father had a sailboat so I sailed some at home (like Bella), and I met my ex-husband in 1975 when I flew to Hawaii looking to get on a boat going to the South Pacific so I could learn celestial navigation and get passage-making experience. I thought I wanted to be the first American woman to sail solo around the world, but instead I fell in love and married a sailor. I've been a sailing daughter, girlfriend, wife and mother (I have some 90 photos of all of this in my SeaKnots albums) but I have only had my own boat for about three and a half years and I feel like I am still a rookie. In fact, just this weekend, I left a restaurant dock on the New River here in Fort Lauderdale and managed to rip my barbeque off on a piling!! We can never be perfect and our boats are always happy to remind us of that. They keep us humble, and provide us with so many laughs along the way.

Lola calls us Savvy Sailors - I'd say we know enough to get ourselves in trouble and not be embarrassed about it because that is the way of boats.

Welcome Aboard and Fair Winds!
