I happen to like the movie "Capt. Ron." My children have always said that he reminds them of me.
Rocky,
S/V Aimee
-Wind, yes. Great scenes and stuff. Yeah, the acting was a bit much. Matthew Modine is kind of a strange dude, but whatever. Still a good flick to watch.
-The Hornblower Saga (too bad they don't follow the books and also finish the series)
Master and Commander -- oh HELL YES! Wow! Want more sequels!!!!!
Captain Ron is good and fun.
Captain Johnson stuff
, I remember seeing those movies when I was young. Cool!

How come there's not MORE sailing movies? Oh, I know, we all want to watch the latest billion-dollar shoot 'em up... or so Hollywierd thinks. :-(
I was watching Turner Classic Moviess the other day and they were showing "The Wackiest Ship in the Army". Jack Lemon, by virtue of his experience yachting in San Diego, is assigned as the skipper of an old ketch in the south Pacific for a covert operation. Ricky Nelson is his First Mate/Exec Officer. Definitely not an Oscar contender (not by a long shot!), but the scenes where Lemon is teaching his totally inexperienced crew about the boat are pretty funny.
I rather enjoyed Jack Lemon's reading of either morse code, by lamp, or semaphore, "You are entering a fine field." which should have been "mine field"
Disney Studios has just released "Morning Light", a new film about the Transpac Race. I haven't seen it, but I have been seeing some of the pre-production clips and trailers for a while. Here's the link to the film's official site: http://disney.go.com/disneypictures/morninglight/
what kind of boat was that in dead calm anyone know ?
Dead Calm is great but on the lighter side "Captain Ron" . Anytime I start to feel down I watch Captain Ron for laughs. I think we have all met him somewhere in our travels.
Dead Calm is one of the best sailing movies. Much better than "WIND", but wer're talking apples 'n organges.
But the best movie of it's genre that also puts more reality in the experience than any so-called reality show that is the latest entertainment trend is the recently released Disney movie "Morning Light".
I saw this in Annapolis on Thrusday evening to a packed house seating at least 500 people.
What an amazing film. The footage of the sailing, and the way the story developed was magic. It says more about human nature that I had expected. Epic film. Go see it, it will amaze you.
Give me "Captains Couragous" - the old one made in the 30s with Spencer Tracy and when the gloucester schooner fleet was still intact. There are a few sailing scenes that are not from any studio. In one, the crew is launching dories over the side the the schooner as she is jogging along at 10kts!
i like a lot message in a bottle ( 1999) with Kevin Costner , Robin Wright Penn and Paul Newman , greate movie.
Ahh~
"Message in a Bottle"
Romancing with the beauty of Sailing, boatbuilding, mid-coast USA waters and much more /)~
After watching "Summer Rental", I unloaded al lot of crap off my boat, just like they they did on "Barnacle".
Now my boat sails like the wind.
