Profile Information

Profile Type:
Sailor
Homeport:
Vail, CO But home is where ever Quietly and I are.
About Me:
For the seven years before retiring in 2002, I worked as Executive Vice President and Chief Information Officer at a Bank the high mountains of Colorado, and before that I owned a business for 18 years and traveled extensively visiting more than 50 countries.

"Live Slow ~ Sail Quietly" says a lot about the changes in my life after leaving the corporate world. I was one of those driven "A" type executives, so much so that it took me over a year to unwind to the point that an afternoon nap after a nice swim was ok. [laughing}

I spent an absolutely wonderful seven years in the Caribbean from 2002 to 2009 and look forward to returning in the future. For now I am living on my boat "Quietly" in Washington DC for a few years.
Current location:
Washington DC
Destinations visited:
I left the US East Coast in November of 2002 sailing first to Bermuda and on to the Caribbean. I have visited the US and British Virgin Islands, St. Maarten, Nevis, St. Kits, Montserrat, Guadalupe, Antigua, The Saints, Dominica, Martinique, St. Lucia, St. Vincent, Bequia, The Grenadines, Grenada, Trinidad and Venezuela.

After seven years in the Caribbean and many a summer in Grenada or Trinidad, I decided to spend the summer of 2009 sailing in New England. So in May 2009 I headed north to Rhode Island, Connecticut, New York, Maryland, Virginia, North Carolina, South Carolina, and now Florida.

I am not a crazy sailor out sailing every day. Far from it! I truly love the quiet life living aboard. It's a happily fulfilling, simple, and un-hurried life anchored among cruising friends and exploring new places.

I was recently contacted by my childhood sweetheart who read my posting here and the part about looking for a sailing partner. We have been friends and I a "big brother" to her since she came to visit my sister 50+ years ago.

We had not seen one another for 18 years when she read my profile here and called me astonished that I had described her perfectly as who I was looking for. We are looking forward to life and sailing together.

Thank you SeaKnots for helping get she and I together after so many years!

New Web Site and New Wi-Fi for Boats

Posted on August 10, 2009 at 12:41pm 1 Comment

After years of helping fellow cruisers with their computers and Wi-Fi questions in the Caribbean I am starting a small business to sell Wi-Fi systems for boats that really work!

Here is my new web site address www.wififorboats.com. Please have a look and if you have suggestions please do not hesitate to make them!

One of my friends saw me testiing a new system in Rodney Bay, St. Lucia. Tito called me and ask me if he could try it. So I took the equipment over to his boat… Continue

A Beautiful Morning in Newport RI

Posted on August 8, 2009 at 10:08am 0 Comments

It's a beautiful Saturday morniing here in Newport, RI. I hope everyone has a great weekend! I am going to listen to some Jazz at the Jazz Festival and do some boat work installing some new equipment. A new AIS-B transponder, a new SeeMe! active radar reflector, and a mast speaker so my VHF fog signals will work (I never needed THAT in the Caribbean!)

Last weekend here was the Newport Folk Festival and I got to see Pete Seegart (of Peter Paul & Mary), Judy Collins and Joan Biaez!… Continue

Hi Dalton,

What an awful time you are going through! I'll bet you are best friends with Percoset!

Have you met my friends Barbara Ann and Harry on Our Dream. They have a big, not friendly German shepherd. I know them from working the Annapolis Boat Show for many years together. They keep trying to get me to drive up to Vero to see them. If I do, I'll let you know. I've been such a slug this winter with the cold weather, am behind on boat chores. Hey, thanks for the daisies! Sure brightens up my day...

Kidney stone..ouch...went through that a few years ago.....you know you're in trouble when you over hear the Doc tell the nurse.."give her all the morphine she wants". They say it's like passing a starfish thru a drinking straw...agree. They had to go "get" mine..double ouch. Went and visited my boat, RI yesterday...was 73 at one point inland, but very windy at the shoreline. Not complaining..lol Hope all is well & not in pain anymore. Hey we could start a group here.. Sailors & kidney stones!

Hi Dalton,

I hope your surgery went well and you are back on Quietly feeling better. When are you going to be feeling well enough to sail further south?

Hello Dalton,

I have just stumbled across your info: the Newport Jazz Festival probably caught my eye. I lived in RI for 14 years, and eventually ended up in St. Thomas, which is now my primary home. Came here as a liveaboard in 1989. I return to Cape Cod every summer, just left on July 5! Fleeing the rain and cold. We are a little out of sync on the schedule. I enjoy the Caribbean, the liveaboard lifestyle (although I am on land now). Favorite islands include Antigua for general sailing and Classics regatta.

You sound as if you are a very thought full person .. and that is not a typo!!. It would be interesting to hear back from you, I happen to be 5'4" etc. I am a reader, rather than movies, abhor the mall and shoe collections and have more interest in spending my money on fun as I have enough worldly goods, with the exception of no sailboat.

Enjoy the Jazz and all that RI has to offer. If it never got below 65F I would not have left in 1988,,

look forward to hearing from you when you get a chance,

Deborah

Hi Dalton. Sounds like you're really enjoying yourself! We have a women's race this Saturday I'm really looking forward to. Your regatta sounds very exciting! We also have our annual Mermaid Regatta coming up for all the ladies. Lots of fun last year. Just got back from hiking and camping in the Colorado mountains. Fun! I climbed 13,600 ft peak. First time there was hail, snow, and wind. Who would have thought hail in August!?

Why are hubcaps less common on modern vehicles?

Hubcaps, which are attached directly to the wheel and rim assembly, are less frequently seen on modern vehicles. This shift is largely due to the adoption of wheels made from aluminum or metal alloys, which are less vulnerable to damage from salt, road chemicals, and harsh winter conditions compared to the previously common steel wheels.WheelCovers.Com prioritizes customer support and security to provide a seamless shopping experience.
