Maybe I'll be there in January to cover Key West Race Week if all goes well. Unless I have to pay my own way to the America's Cup in RAK. Yuck! Not half as nice as KW!

I am sitting in the Conch Flyer bar having a cold beer. My flight is delayed of course. This new airport bar is great!
Is anyone planning to attend Fantasy Fest?
I will be there paint and all!

John, about the keys being spared hurricanes. You need to visit the grotto to St Mary at St Mary Star of the Sea church in KW. As long as her grotto stands, she said that KW will never suffer a direct hit. So far that has held true... go light a candle and thank her fo rthose who love the keys.

Welcome Geoff! I just joined yesterday too. What else to do on a nasty rainy Florida summer day.LOL That spot you mention is a great one Espen and I have spent many nights there. We were just talking about the days when you could spearfish some hogs at the reef and then we would sail back in and eat, drink, watch the sunset in that exact spot. He just bought another Vega 27 which is what we used to to the above senario in.

Funny story about that exact spot: My wife and I where trudging along in our old 7 foot pram dinghy complete with British seagull doing about two knots. As we came around the north tip of Wisteria this girl who lived in the woods comes running out. She was kind of cute so I went right over and beached at her feet. She needed a ride across to KW so she could sell her wares to the tourist as a cruise ship had just come in. I said I'd be happy to help but we need two things. The first is an extra lifejacket, the second is she would have to put some clothes on as she was totally nude at the time. No problem, she threw on a large nitie tee shirt and wa la then we took her to a friends boat on the way and got the life jacket. So as we putt putted along making the very rough crossing (dive boat wakes) we asked about her life on the island. All was well and when asked just what is it you sell to the tourist thats inside your backpack. She said she was a hemp salesman. Oh nice I said but, was thinking and here we are in this overloaded dinghy crossing a very heavily marine patrolled area. During the year of the zero tolerance laws. Later we met up again just off Duval and I was relived to see her stock of hemp jewlrey. I learned that hemp is not "the smoking weed". My wife and I laughed and thought of all the poor souls who drive to KW. They never ever get half the adventure we do by sea.

Sail on

Geofrey is the Navy still enforcing thier no anchor zone? I had heard they had cleared out quite a few boats west of Fleming that they considered anchored to close to the island..

I should be in Key West in January for Race Week. Usually, I drive down from Massachusetts with my RIB on a trailer and rent a slip at Garrison Bit. If I go down next year I may try to find a more economical place to keep my RIB because it's only 15 feet. Although, I do like the fact that there is parking at the City Marina and I can store my trailer there. Plus there are lots of place to get supplies in walking distance of the marina.

One year I camped at Boyds. Nice place (and pool) and I could walk to my boat but the ride to the ocean for the races was too too long!!!

My plan in five years is to buy at Grand Banks and live on it down the Keys. Maybe have a Gallery off of Duval. I can fly any place need to go to photograph regattas. I can dream can't I? But I'm very serous about this plan!!!

Blue Highway, I just brought a boat to Stock Island last week. Flemming looked crowded as usual. My preference has always been west side of Christmas Tree (Wisteria). Easy in and out, steer 90 from G 17 NW Channel, go as close as possible to NW tip of island to stay out of current. Never a problem with local neighbors. Was wide open last week as it has been since the storms and increased presence of "potti-patrol" and LE insisting your dink has a full set of running lights, soggy registration aboard, etc. I now only go to Key West if I'm paid and the sponsor is willing to pay exorbitant slip fees.(Fantasy Fest is typically $3.25/ft and up,3 day min., LOA) You might try the new mooring field or as Espin and I do, stick to the Ten Thousand Islands, OUTSIDE of the park boundaries. If you visited Sicily then you also must go to Sardinia, where you will find by far the most beautiful sea dn beaches of the entire Mediterranean.

Lovely! Thanks for sharing the photos. My Daughter and I visited Sicily and really wished we could have made it to Sardinia. (although folks seemed to think that was strange, not sure why) Just love those un-trafficked islands. Went to Skyos Greec...
