Ahoy all: I never considered the experience that I shared with the group about getting the spreader caught under the bridge as bad......really just consider it another learning experience. Dianne

Greetings! I know it's a little cold here right now, but once the thaw comes I'd be happy to take on crew for local daysailing, possible weekend trips to the Lake Erie Islands, goofing around, etc. I usually singlehand my Westerly Cirrus around LaPlaisance Bay on Lake Erie. Experience helpful, but not required. The boat is easily handled, so it can also be a learning experience for someone who wants to catch "sailing fever". I keep a slip at Otter Creek Marina just south of Monroe, Michigan and just a few miles north of Toledo, Ohio.

Ahoy Bobbi: don't think anyone thought that you did....I certainly didn't. You offered sound advice for always having a return trip home which I have always followed as well. I have not been thrown off a boat by the captain......yet,,, but I have jumped ship once. This was a delivery where I met the boat in Annapolis to help deliver her to Miami. Met the boat in late November and it turned out to be a cold, wet, foggy trip. Some of the incidents during the passage are now comical in hindsight. We hit St. Augustine on NY's eve, the guide books suggest Bahamian anchoring there, which seemed a good idea to me, the captain didn't think that was necessary. During the night, the current turned, the CQR flipped and the boat drifted upstream with the current and a spreader was caught under one of the lower arches of the Bridge of Lions. At 4:00am as the current increased, the boat tilted more and water was starting to come over the toerail. The captain was getting excited!! At this point I really didn't care....had on a new floater coat, didn't mind about my old clothes onboard, had my purse with $$ & plastic around my neck. I figured if the boat sank, I could float upstream & grab hold of a dock @ the marina as I went by ! Curious when the crew is totally fed up how blase one can get when it's not your boat!!! We finally winched our way out from the bridge, and reanchored by daybreak. How we didn't hit another of the anchored boats is still a mystery. I stayed for a few extra days to help the captain get things organized & then high-tailed it for home....clearly this adventure was over. The captain was a screamer which helped little....I decided that if I wanted more abuse......might as well go home & look for a job. Now, looking forward to another but quieter adventure.....Dianne

I just wanted everyone to know that I was not picking on Zeehag. It was just a good lesson for anyone looking to crew on a boat away from home port. I have been in the situation twice where I chose to jump ship because of an abusive skipper in one case....and put out or get off in another. Once in Tonga and once in Turkey. Both times things worked out fine because I had enough money to make other arrangements. After the Tonga episode I flew to New Zealand in time to see the Americas cup races. In Turkey I meet a guy I knew from San Francisco in an internet cafe that was looking for crew and spent the rest of the season crewing on his boat. Good can come of bad if you are prepared. Its a lesson all crewpeople should consider before taking off.

Hello everyone, I'll be sailing south to the Exumas around the last week of January. Then I'll be hanging around Georgetown for awhile before taking off for the Virgin Islands. I'm in Prague visiting my children now and will be back on my boat in Eleuthera, Bahamas around the 9th of January. Anyone interested in sailing with me send me a note at sailin@sailin.net. I charge about $500 per week for cruising on the boat. I charge less for longer sailing times. It's a 40' Sparkman and Stephens ketch. Hope to hear from you, Lee
