Getting myself geared up to do some serious blogging.
Hurricane season will be here shortly. A "light" season predicted. Only time will tell. O Town tends to get the hurricanes later in the season but there are always exceptions.
You know you can count on your VERY FAVORITE hurricane blogger to be on the spot, if possible. I am hoping the forecasters are correct but there's a reason they call it FORECASTING!
Several things to relate: Trading up to a larger boat…

It is 80 degrees today in Mickey Mouse Land today! YAY!!!
Last Friday morning I scraped ice off my windshield before I went to work. What a pain! I do not understand how anyone lives in a place where that would be normal. :) I live here BECAUSE I hate cold weather. And it has been darn cold the past 2 weeks, even here in THE BEST SAILING STATE IN THE US.
When I scraped ice off my window this past week I was reminded of when I was in college in north Texas. It DID snow…

O Town is getting cold this week, but this past week was the reason why we call Florida the BEST SAILING STATE in the United States. While the rest of the country was under major cold with many areas under snow and ice Floridians were wearing short sleeves last week in 75 degree weather.
Walt Disney knew what he was doing when he put Mickey Mouse Land here. For Christmas, they make snow here. Thank God that's for the tourists. :)
So sailing on the Intercoastal this weekend…

Haven't blogged for a while since, thankfully, the hurricanes have left Florida alone after a very busy beginning of the season.
I see that Lola is busy with the female sailors group...
TOO COOL!!! There are way too few of us gals out there so I am very proud to be part of it! Check it out.
Off sailing on the barge canal this weekend on Endless Wind. Am looking forward to that even though the weather here is getting cooler at night. It's true that the natives here…

Looks like hurricane season has taken a little respite so everyone here in Florida is just enjoying the BEST SAILING STATE in the USA.
Unable to sail EW this weekend, but will be out next weekend. Last weekend instead of going into the intercoastal, we went through the #3 drawbridge towards the coast. We didn't go through the locks but motored over to an island near them. It was VERY COOL for a newbie like me to have the drawbridge opened especially for EW!
Note for…

First off, my prayers go out to the people on the East side of Texas, especially Houston and Galvaston.
Mr. John Shasteen has posted some pics of the Yacht Club in Houston post Ike on the home page forum under Hurricane Ike. What horrible devastation. I was stunned at all the tremendous damage to the boats. Many of them were absolutely totaled.
Florida remains hurricane free for now as we continue to cross our fingers and toes. Sailing out on the Florida intercoastal…

Life in O Town is as usual. No hurricanes in the near future, anyway. That is a relief!
We are all keeping an eye on the weather all the time, of course. Who knows what tropical storms are out there waiting to turn into hurricanes? My thoughts and prayers go out to those who have had damage.
Hoping to sail this weekend. I will post some pics (I hope) of the Merritt Island bridge and thereabouts on the barge canal. I'll try to get a pic of the canal markers. I know the…

Looks like Ike will skirt Southern Florida...and will probably not impact O Town weather other than some possible rain. We are, of course, still in the "cone of possibility" but the weather forecasters seem to have calmed down a bit about it...at least as far as its effect on Mickey Mouse land.
We are all crossing our fingers and toes. Another one dodged...we think....
The Eastern Coast of FL is beautiful today. I'll be out there sailing EW next weekend and am hoping for a…

Looks like Mickey Mouse town is due to get some effect from Hurricane Ike. Hanna will pretty much miss us...spinning out fairly far east in the Atlantic...WE HOPE... Josephine doesn't look to be a threat to us, so that's somewhat less worry.
Ike is another story. He is predicted to hit the southern tip of Florida and we will FOR SURE get some major wind and rains the first part of next week.
This weekend will be spent doing the various chores one does when a hurricane…

People are getting ready in O Town for the hurricane tri-fecta, but not doing major prep for Hanna.
She is due to check in and out quickly (and in very early Friday am and out by the end of the day) so we can all get ready for Ike! Latest update: Hanna to pretty much miss O Town...she's apparently pushed even more to the east.
Ike will be affecting us next week sometime...maybe Tuesday or so. Drat it...I'm not sure I have enough bread! :)
This is the one…

Weather today in O Town was absolutely gorgeous. As Phillip Karney would say in the old time radio show Adventures of the Scarlet Queen..."Skies clear, winds fair".... Sunny and mild...just a real treat....even for those of us who reside here permanently. This will end early Friday morning when some of the outer bands of Hanna arrive.
I feel fairly certain the bread shelves at the store are pretty decimated. I already have my 4 loaves in the freezer should I NEED them...hurricane…

It has been a gorgeous sunny day here in the big O Town for Labor Day. No gusty winds and no rain today. HURRAY!!!
This will change later in the week as Hurricane Hanna comes to Mickey Mouse Land to visit....the western bands will effect our weather towards the end of the week, and EW will probably get hammered with rain again in Merritt Island. Managed to do a bit of leak-proofing for this storm, so am hoping that she takes on less water this time. I am praying so.
Bread…

So, this hurricane probably isn't going to impact O-Town weather other than MAYBE some rain. And hey, let's face it, that's what it DOES here a lot.
If the bread starts flying off the grocery store shelves...well, then, I'll know O-town is going to be impacted....that's what the natives do here when there's a hurricane coming...they buy ALL THE BREAD off the shelves. I will self-activate myself as "The resident hurricane blogger" so I can update on the storm, if need be.
I…

The weather in O town this morning is clear with sunshine (yes, that big yellow thing in the sky is now visible to us!). I understand it will rain this afternoon, but it's the rainy season here so that's not big news.
We are now more humid than normal, of course. Everyone is emerging like monarch butterflies from their cocoons. People are in the stores and things are getting back to normal in town. Yes, even routine can be GOOD!
Unsure if there are more storms out there,…

Endless Wind took on some water and I have spent the morning and early afternoon drying her out.....nothing serious and she rode out the storm well according to our marina neighbor, Bill [who lives on his 27 footer]
The harbor-master and his helpers were able to un-sink some boats that sank, and re-tied lines as the water rose in the marina to extremely high levels. Just a bit below the dock decking....I think they must have taken watches because it appears that they were all up for…

Fay has slammed O town today....but not as bad as yesterday. Still a lot of rain and gusts of wind.
She is leaving this evening or so we hear.....I also heard the stats this morning that Fay has dumped more rain on us than Charlie, Jeanine AND Frances. Now, THAT is a lot of water.
Couldn't get to Endless Wind today, but am going out in the morning to see my baby. I know that everyone found every leak their boat had during this storm....I guess that is a blessing in…

Orlando is now being hammered by Fay, but not as badly as Cocoa Beach on the east side. Weather says Fay may be coming back through again (hey, everyone who visits Orlando comes BACK!!) so we can expect more rain. And it has rained all day today....with gusty winds that are downright scary....everyone is staying home and hunkering down....
Fay is reminiscent of Jeanine, who came through after Charlie and hung around for a while....dumping rain on us maximally...and now Fay is doing…

Based in Orlando as I am, Fay has impacted us by her rain. We need it, so it's a blessing.
Our boat, Endless Wind, is slipped in Merritt Island. Fay has stalled over in that area and my poor baby boat is getting SLAMMED. I tied everything down really well before I left her on Sunday, but I worry, of course.
Who doesn't?
I do know that if something catastrophic would happen the dockmaster would call, and he hasn't. So, while it's raining a lot, EW is ok and still…
