Sunday morning I saw some manatees in the marina!  The marina has a lot of vegetation on the bottom, so often there are manatees around.  These were the first ones I had seen for several months.  Sometimes they nudge the Owl's bottom as they pass in the night.  A most cool feeling.

A couple of years ago I saw a mama manatee and her baby.  It was awesome!  I love seeing them in their native environment, although I did enjoy seeing them at Sea World here in Otown.  Sorry, but when they closed the hospitality house (the only reason natives kept season tickets) and stopped beer school, well, the whole place went downhill.  Oh, not really!!!

One of the reasons I love sailing is I enjoy seeing dolphins in their natural habitat, and manatees are number two on that list.  They are much larger when you see them in water close to you.  MUCH LARGER.  Especially manatees.  Manatees are herbivores, and don't move very fast, but boy, are they big!  Sometimes when I am getting out of the marina I will see them lazily hanging on the top of the water.  Then it's time to play "dodge the manatee"...go slow, slow, slow.

I love this state, and I love living on the Owl during the weekends.  Looking forward to a cruise down to Captain Hiram's in Sebastian for the Memorial Day holiday weekend.  There's a daquiri with my name on it waiting.  OH YEAH!!!

Fair Winds, all.  Stay safe and dry.

Dreaming the life and living the dream.
