Has anyone had a chance to experiment with different tension settings on there B40. Back stay and shrouds. I recently got a tension gauge, loos PT-3M for accurate and reproducible measurements. Not much out there re any "standard" settings , understanding of course there would be various settings with different conditions. But where do you start?

I am interested as well to see if anyone out there has some specific info on this as well. I do a 360 mile ocean race every 2 years with 2014 being my second on my B40. We tuned the rig last time by feel and based on predicted wind conditions. Rig seemed good but couldn't help but wonder if it could have been better. Have also looked around to see if there weren't any polars floating around in cyber space to reference as well, but there was nothing. I shouldn't be surprised given what she is. Occasionally think about a racing boat but the B40 is so darn nice it would be hell of a trade off given we are mainly cruisers.

Hi mike. I have the book and have seen the scamp40 site, great site. I also read your discussions re back stays. Which model wichard is that on the scamp. I'm also in the process of getting adjustable genoa cars. Il be using lewmars track and cars so I won't have to drill new holes. How difficult was it to add the backstay adjusters

Hi Mike,

thanks so much for your reply regarding the polars and a link to your website! Really helpful and I am glad to see there is someone out there who is as passionate about their B40. As I mentioned before, I am gearing up for an ocean race in July 2014 and I was interested with what you did with your backstay to increase performance. After a bit of research, it looks like a fairly expensive add on and I was wondering if you felt the investment was worth it? Also do you have any other "must haves" in terms of improving the B40 on the race course?? I look forward to your response.

Kindest regards,

Scott

Would like to  see details on installation of adjustable genoa cars, if anyone has done this. Must the track be replaced? If so how do you thru-bolt the new track?

Mike

Great photos - any chance you supplying accurate parts information and close up detail on the manner in which you fastened the turning block to the genoa car?.
