I have a 2001 Mac. 26X and find it sails well, she can point 45 degrees off the wind with a 110. I can sheet the lines inside of the stays, anything larger and you have to run the lines outside of the stay and therfor not point as high, off the wind I do 6.2 knots or more easy in 12 knots of wind.
The water ballest works very well and also cushions the waves on a beat as it is all sealed into the hull and stiffins it. Beach is a real plus and stays upright because of the flat bottom.
I am still fine tuneing the rig but overall I am pleased with it. The quality isn't as good as some of my previous boats but not bad.
The 26 ft. Mac.S is a faster boat under sail but you don't have the headroom or able to do 15 knots under power.
Years ago you wouldn't find me even looking at a Mac. and when they came out with the water ballest and cut away stearn I put it up as a beginers boat that can't sail.
It is nothing like my Previous Alberg 35 or Compac but for a coastal cruiser it fits my bill down here in SW Florida were water is thin (draws 9 inches).
Best of all it is easier to tow than my Potter 19 because of the new aluminum frame Trailer and tandum axels.
I do like the earlier S's and couldn't find a good one, I bought a new 9.8 4 cycle outboard for the S. Know anyone looking for one? They can save more than $700 over new one and this is new.

Missed out on a dockmasters job at a new marina by a week. So now I'll probably get some kind of "normal" job here in New Bern. Don't want to run the kitty down any further, or I'll end up having to work longer.

Okay, BW, I give up! I know we must know each other from another sailing b-board, (otherwise why would the "Pooby" handle be familiar to you), but I'm hopelessly stumped as to where our paths have crossed. Before my overworked, middle-aged, I-survived-the 70s brain suffers a complete meltdown, help me out here! Thanks, matey, and fair winds to ye!

Yall ever entered the Harvest Moon, that'd be wild!

Hey great joke! Pilots have always been politically correct.

I see you are sailing a Columbia 10.7. I have made an offer on a 1979 8.7. The deck hull are in great shape but the interior ply is all in sad shape. This allows me to get her cheap and rebuild the inside to my specs. How do you like your Columbia? Does she sail as well as I have read they do? Any tips? I sail on Lake Erie out of Buffalo, NY.

Actually, after bouncing around North Carolina, I've stopped in New Bern, NC, where I'll probably work for a while and build up the kitty. Still convincing myself to do that though.

She is a 1973 model and a wonderful livaboard. Tons of moving around space and even more storage. Only wish I had a walk around bed in the MSR, otherwise it's great. I've been aboard 2 years this month with my dog and my g/f was with us for 4 months and still plenty big. If I could learn to keep house it would appear even bigger. Joel in St Pete

Already been through Nov of 2006. Spent 4 days at the Lake Arthur Yacht Club on the Mermetau River, then turned around and went back to Texas. Not much fun crossing Lake Sabine in 30 knot winds from the NW, I can tell you that much. But Star Island is a great little anchorage.
