Zeehag, greetings! I see you're sailing So. Cal. We lived in Redlands for 10 years and sailed a Coronado 35 out of San Pedro. Fond memories of Catalina, SD, etc. I don't see info about your ketch. Want to tell me about her?

Understood. Basically, I'm only happy that you're safe. Welcome home. Yes, the next time should be on your own time, on your own terms. All the best.

I've been reading your "adventures" in the crew forums. Yikes!! Sounds like a crappy trip. I'm glad you're making your way back home safely. All the best in the New Year - and beyond.

Speaking of pets..... (I'd speak of the other thing, but it's an open forum) I just adopted a new puppy. Toby is a 4 month old, fluffy, clownish, Pomeranian. My other dog, Maxine, is 12 years old and I thought I'd better start breaking in new crew because Maxi isn't as tolerant of sailing as she used to be. Toby is a riot! Your typical frisky mini-monster, but smart as can be. He's learning things quickly.

Speaking of monsters, I don't know if you've checked it out, but you can also do a profile at www.sailmonster.com where there is a very active community of sailors. The best part is they have a real-time chat feature and almost all of my friends from the old Yahoo Sailing Chat are now in there.

Hope your Christmas was wonderful, and I wish you all the best in the New Year and beyond.

Young boppers? I'd have very little to say to one. A sense of common history is important. You have to have some something to talk about once you're dressed again.

Life is better with pets. Most cats I know are pretty good company, and if I could train one to work the foredeck I'd prefer to cruise with them than with a lot of humans I know. (Although finding a gimbaled littler box can be a bitch.)

Surf on the Great Lakes? Ha! You could raise a larger wave farting in the bathtub.

Sex in the winter does keep the frost off, but it's equally nice in the spring, summer, and fall. Although winter does tend to make you want to do it indoors most days. A rolling deck in the sunshine would be better, but I tend to bloom where I'm planted.

My kitchen cabinets are ancient. Built in the 40's, or earlier, so I'm going to have to make a few cuts to make modern hinges fit. Oh well. The joys of home ownership. sigh

All in all, life is good. Considering I'm in Michigan things could be much worse, and many have less than I. I'm happy to have work to bitch about.

How are things there? Getting out? Having fun? Finding someone to help keep the frost off?

PS - I was just looking at your pirate drawing. Do you ever read the comic strip "Rose is Rose" - rose has a biker chick alter ego that your pic reminds me of. :)

today was not bad - it was cold in the AM (30? I don't know) but warmed up enough to go around with a jacket on. I went down to the boat (45 minute drive), to inspect the shrink-wrap and do some prep - extension cords, drop lights, etc. - so I can start doing all the work that must get done to have a boat by summer. I also looked at space heaters - at some point i'm going to want to do epoxy and fiberglass work despite the cold.

I am still planning on doing a short weekend trip to FL before the end of the year. I want to go down and get an FL driver's license. I already signed up for a mailbox at St. Brendan's Isle.

Greetings and halucinations! Thanks for the note. I'm well, but I've been really busy lately. Working my regular job, doing a little moonlighting, and I started a kitchen "makeover" that's become a major project (or a major pain, depending on how you look at it.). I figure I have to keep moving or I'll rust. Although freezing to death is more realistic than rusting. Gotta love Michigan!

Hope all is well in sunny SDiego. (Sigh. Warm sunshine. Sighhhhh....) I think I remember you saying a friend was coming down to visit. I hope that worked out and that you got plenty of time on the water.

All the best!

type the name in the sea dog search bar at the top right of this page. I'm going over to his house tomorrow to barbecue for a TV crew that's there to film his orchid garden and interview him.

I'm in Santa Ana, Costa Rica at the moment but return to NYC on 12/3 and am hoping for a heat wave.

Look up my friend Arnoldo Alfaro in Costa Rica. He has just finished restoring his Tiger of the Seas Formosa Ketch 45 ft.

Played around at Lake George a few times during that period. Played Bongos here in NE and in Germany (mostly jamming with friends but did a couple of concerts in Heidelberg Castle in 1971). Do I look like a drummer? Hmmmm. Maybe its the way I hold my arms!
