Holiday Inertia

Unlike the holiday shoppers who joined the black Friday frenzy, the inertia that keeps me moving from a 5:30 am swim to a late night walk with the dog, seemed to have been stopped when I boarded Delta flight 1450. From the moment I sat down on the aisle seat, stretched my legs, and began toying with my camera I metamorphed into a sedentary speciman.

Just as I am usually determined to spend an eighth of my day exercising, I became determined to organize the more than 1000 photos taken… Continue

The Sailing Anarchy article on the Cuba Run 2010

Run Cuba, Run

Some events are just too Anarchic for us not to support. This is one of them:

A few years ago, two cat sailors - one British and One Australian, were being pounded by waves during a leg of the Great Texas 300 race. On that day, in between grunts and over the roar of the wind, an idea took hold: Why not race beach cats to Havana? The Cuba Run was born that day.

We put the basic concept on paper late last year, and work began in earnest to see what… Continue

Home for the Holidays

As the song goes, there's no place like home for the holidays and we all know home is where the heart is. Couple this with rainy weather a gazillion cars in a hurry to get home, crowded airports, plane delays, and a tight budget going home is a little stressful this year. Even still, the confidence I gained from my summer solo sail has even given me the hutzpah to stand tall, be a frugal shopper and take perhaps a much needed break from sailing.

After 62 days of solo cruising I came… Continue

And hurricane season has only 2 more weeks!!!

Hurricane Ida missed Florida but as we all know, the further north states got some major weather. O Town was glad to dodge the bullet, as it were.

There were gusty winds on Monday and Tuesday of last week but no rain to speak of. We have gone from twice a week water rationing to once a week water rationing. We do need rain but are glad we didn't get a major storm or flooding. I hope everyone one who was affected is doing all right now.

I am now preparing for a week… Continue

Why is it Called a Noreaster When it Comes From the South?

That's my question for the day. Hurricaine Ida took a stroll up from Alabama to hit us here in Hampton Roads, Virginia yesterday. We were expecting strong winds and rain, but nothing too terrible, I thought. What we got was 60 - 75 MPH winds (that's category 1, folks) and flooding.

Assessing the project

Assessing the project

sunny, high 60's

11/09/2009, Port Kinsale Marina, Kinsale VA

The hardest part of making the trip to Kinsale is actually getting into the car and doing it. I finally dragged myself out of the house at 9:40am or so and set off. Despite leaving ridiculously late (especially since it gets dark so soon now) I decided I wasn't rushing down again and blowing past all the intriguing stuff on the way. As I approached Oak Grove, about 30 mi… Continue

Today’s post is the introduction to Sailing Faith: The Long Way Home. I plan on making the book available for purchase in time for Christmas, and wish to have an idea of how many to order. Please click here to express a nonbinding interest in ordering.

Ida wants to spend Thanksgiving with Florida!

So, here we are...almost done with hurricane season...a pretty light one at that...and Ida wants to party! The weather people think she will bring rain, probably on the back end of the storm.

Looks like O Town will get some major rain by Wednesday or Thursday. I hope that it's only rain. Actually, I hope that Ida doesn't hook up into Florida but only time will tell.

Haven't been out on the water for a while. Next weekend is possible if Ida decides to go elsewhere.… Continue

Moving Day

Well....it didn't start out to be moving day.....I loaded the car to the roof (for the third time) and set off on the 3 hour trek to Kinsale. (First time I got there and was informed the marina was holding the boat for debts, second time I destroyed a tire about halfway there and had to return home....)

A little backstory....here are the photos of the marina and boat from when I bought it back at the end of May, when I found out it wasn't really mine after all......…
