A tropical WHAT?

Good grief!

It isn't even THE SEASON yet and there's a depression out there. Near North Carolina and not supposed to hit land, but it's already all over the radio. . Here, let me get out my 8 ball to confirm their prediction(s)!

The weather is humid and overcast. Looking at some major storms this evening in the city proper. It's on the radar, so I guess I don't have to consult my 8 ball.

No sailing this weekend as the hubby is sick and the weather looks… Continue

O Town begins to dry out...OH YEAH!

We had rain all last week, pretty much. It's the rainy season here. We are still below our rain average, and there are a lot of places on the East coast that are flooding... Daytona Beach was shown on the news....WOW!!

Hurricane season starts shortly so of course all the radio stations and TV weather programs are featuring people [meteorologists] predicting what is going to happen...like they even have an IDEA!!!! How about I pull out my 8 ball and make the predictions? Bet I can… Continue

Dangers of propane can't be overstated

My friends and i just went through the harrowing experience of fighting a brutal fire in a trailer park after an elderly fellow tried to light a propane appliance the wrong way. The explosion blew him across the room and it was only by the quick thinking of others that both he and his wife were pulled out of the place before it went completely up in flames. Pics and full story on my blog at www.loosemoorings.org The story was on both the evening news and in the local paper.

A… Continue

Finally on the boat here in Ft. Lauderdale...

OK, here we had been trying to get out of the slip since 8am this morning. Started on a Beneteau 393 due to a bad starter solenoid relay on our cat. It rained very very heavy with frequent lightning this morning here in Ft Lauderdale from 0830 to about 1145. The weather started clearing up and we thought our cat would be ready, but it did not get released from the mechanic until 1600 today..too late to provisionj and leave out for south Miami. So, night two in the marina...We are to to leave… Continue

Repowering with electric motor, hydrogen or vinegar !

In Puerto Rico last winter, I met a cruising couple who had restored a Westsail 32. I came to meet them one late afternoon at an anchorage while sitting on Can-Drac with Andrea and Franc. This classic beauty was one of the last to arrive that day thru a narrow channel, to catch a mooring for the night.

As she passed us, Franc turns to me and says, 'Hey, that looks like a possible boat for you, Suky'.

We hailed them on the radio and asked if we could come aboard.… Continue

Begin my sailing life.....NOW

My Dad and I are on the way down to Ft Lauderdale to be onboard a cat for our first series of 3 lesson sets. We are to be at the marina by 3pm 5/23/09. I hope Dad does not get seasick (he does have a prescription patch to wear). I will be fine and am looking forward to the adventure. I have been keeping up with all the blogs and comments that I can and appreciate everyones encouragement and help. I enjoyed talking to L O L A recently, but can't seem to reach her lately. She is a few steps ahead… Continue

Where have I been?

Home writing an article, my first really important one! Been working on it for more than a month and getting ready for my big summer solo sail. Sorry if I haven't responded to anyone. I expect to get caught up this week-end with ya'll.

It's raining...it's pouring in touristland!

We have not had rain for months and it is nice to FINALLY have it. All week, as a matter of fact. My little garden is loving it. I know my water bill is!

There's a terrible secret about O Town drivers...we don't do well driving in rain. We should since it rains a TON here. They don't call Florida a tropical paradise for no reason, don't cha know?

So when everyone gets out on the roads during the rush hours here it's pretty brutal especially when it's raining. The killer… Continue

First leg of the rally, Tortola to Bermuda

We never intended to race. But as we set off on the first leg of the ARC Europe rally, we could not resist the challenge of a good start. Over two dozen boats eager to cross a short line between a committee boat and an orange buoy at the sound of a horn was sure to be exciting!

So we came out of the marina early and picked the best angle; one that would give us right of way and put us at the right place at the right time. Sure enough,… Continue

How time flies!!! Hurricane season is ALMOST upon us!

Getting myself geared up to do some serious blogging.

Hurricane season will be here shortly. A "light" season predicted. Only time will tell. O Town tends to get the hurricanes later in the season but there are always exceptions.

You know you can count on your VERY FAVORITE hurricane blogger to be on the spot, if possible. I am hoping the forecasters are correct but there's a reason they call it FORECASTING!

Several things to relate: Trading up to a larger boat… Continue
