Lola, take one step at a time. If you have roller furler ..un furl to wind conditions and go thru 360 degrees.
You will learn a lot of how the boat sails with the genoa and will not heel you to the point nerves. As you build confidence, raise the Main in winds less than 15 knots and have all your lines lead aft for single handed sailing.
Get someone who knows how to sail the first few times out.
Once you build experance..there is no turning back and your hooked.

Looks like my comments never was entered in full on my June 3rd post.
I Sail often in the Gulf of Mexico and just came back from a 3 trip with the WCTSS.
The Mac.X actually points to Windward well considering the amout of freeboard.
I was able to point high enough to out Sail a Mac. S this past weekend. Normally the S is a faster boat and if it had a 110 Jib would probably point just as well.

Sounds like maybe you found the perfect all around rig ...big enough for the Sea if needed ....perfect for the bays ....and at home on the inland lakes too ..thanks to being trailerable! Thanks for the feedback on the Mac ...ive always wondered about them and how they get by with no keel, etc..etc. ; As for the 4 stroke ..I just purchased a brand new 2 HP Honda for my auxilary dink ..and a 9 plus hp engine would have been too much for it anyway. I'll ask around the marina here and see if anyone is in the market though ....

How do you like those Macs ? We have 2 different members in our club that bought them and seem to enjoy them. Im sure they probably dont point too well in the wind ..but im sure they go fast enough when they want to motor-wise once the sails are doused! Welcome to SeaKnots!
