I am an adventurer and explorer looking for a kindred spirit. In 2007 I sailed across the Atlantic with my late wife in my sailboat from Palm Beach, to Bermuda, Azores, Gibraltar, then up the Spanish Coast, visiting Valencia and Barcelona. Thence to Sardinia and ending up at Rome. Night watches under the canopy of stars, brilliant moon-lit waves, quiet wave-lapping as the wind pressed us onward were priceless. Sunsets, moon rises, then morning breaking with an orange painted horizon 1000 miles away from nearest land sharpened my vision to see God’s fingerprints all around us, a majestic part of the mystery.
Last couple of years sailing has been limited to summers in Martha’s Vineyard, Nantucket, and Maine with autumns on the Chesapeake. These are great cruising grounds, but boats shouldn’t be at docks and why spend winter in Philadelphia when warm places await?
Besides sailing, I am a certified SCUBA diver, love to bike, row my shell, hike, rock climb, Xcountry ski, but am awkward in team or competitive sports. Bored with spectator sports. I hope to find a woman who finds the joy of the wind in her hair when the top is down in a sports car out weighs getting her hair messed up.
Past lives–lived in a large historically certified Victorian which my wife and I restored. I am an engineer by profession and managed rehab projects and property for many years. I have pretty decent analytic skills and coping. Being retired is a treat but I still enjoy working with my hands which being a boat owner is never a problem.
I have 2 great kids, they make me feel good. Both have had independent and exciting lives for many years. Family and friends are the bedrock of life.
I love to cook but recipes are just a starting point. Intelligent conversation lingering over bracingly strong coffee or maybe a Malbec or single malt is paramount. It’s doubtful we would talk about last nights TV program. Politically I am fairly liberal. Latest musical discoveries are Furtwangler’s Second Symphony and the shear naked sensuality of Schoenberg’s Gurreleider. I love massage and try to creatively read my partner's body. Crave hugs.
I look forward to meeting an intelligent, active, fit, and curious person. I like people who take risks. Life is a movable feast, and I like to dip deeply. Sure it keeps me from being slender, but folks with appetites for life are more real.
Baggage, who doesn’t have some, is the mark of life’s complexities. I hope mine is in a duffel bag that can be scrunched and kicked into a corner so as not to be in the way. I wear my dents, scrapes and my worn fur patches proudly, a product of life lived with zest. I am a resilient easy going guy. I love theater but not theatrical relationships. I crave gentleness, openness, and courtesy. I am reasonably well traveled but unlikely to be described as suave. I don’t do small talk well–probably a social failing.

Hi Carl, I sold my boat in March. I had had enough after 9 years aboard, so moved "dirtside" and bought a house in Florida. I'm sailing with others and so thankful not to be pouring money into that boat. I was going to spend last summer at the Vineyard but had to get back home so I left on June 29th and brought her to New Bedford, offloaded all my stuff and moved to Florida. I just couldn't afford her anymore and was tired of doing it alone. If you ever get to the Gulf coast of Florida look me up.
Have never been to Turkey but enjoyed Greece last October ... from Epidavros through the Corinth Canal to Gouvia Marina Corfu. Loved Sopers Hole in Tortola in 2010 ... will return. Have to escape the rain in Ireland!

Hi Carl,
I don't think this is semi or otherwise private. I tried sending you a message, but haven't quite figured out the site. I had "invited" you to be friend, and think you need to accept my invite before we can email each other.
Unfortunately, life sometimes gest in the way of our plans or fun. Let's keep in touch, and let me know if you ever do make it south. Pam
