The problem of books on board is that they take up valuable space. Even books on tape or CD, while taking up less space still need storage.

But I just found something great; Audible.com. Down load directly to your Ipod and chthink it's great...oose from literally thousands of titles. You can find Joseph Conrad, Slocum and tons of others that will get you through those dark mid watches when your bored out of your tree and can't have a light on to read a book.

And the prices are pretty good, too, compared with Itunes audiobooks. A couple of days ago I downloaded just over $90 worth of books for a little more than $30. All told 80 hours of good stuff.

Anyone else use Audible or another audio book source?

To me, this is the best approach to getting off the dock. . .

Sensible Cruising: The Thoreau Approach by Don Casey and Lew Hackler. Available through Amazon and most book web sites.

For years of browsing and great nautical knowledge little beats The Oxford Companion to Ships and the Sea.

Don't pass up The Mirror of the Sea by Joseph Conrad.

I have been informed of a couple reads already on this site alone, both of which top my list of latest (informative) finds.

I am anxious to know what else is out there awaiting my hungry brain!
