Sam,

this may not be useful to you but when i bought my 40 back in 2016 the surveyor noted no VIN on my hull. His exact words to me were " only the manufacturer and the Coast Guard know that alternate location".  With this being said, the broker whom was a Beneteau dealer and had sold that boat to the first owner and had all the original paperwork, he contacted Beneteau in Marion about it and they cut a stencil of the VIN. They also sent him a sand blaster to use to engrave my hull. This fulfilled the loan company's need and that of the surveyor.

I think there is a metal plate, with the number engraved, on the starboard side of the stairs to the bading plattform. Under the seat that can be opened.

On my 43 the VIN is on one of the hull floors (transverse ribs under the floor boards) adjacent to the stove.

The are moulded into the gelcoat.

Hope this helps.
