Currently in Bimini headed to Georgetown and points south with eyes on DR Puerto Rico and Virgins in March. Any hints or pointers on good places to stop and find like minded cruisers? What places to avoid and if there is someplace where our pets are going to be a problem (dog and cat).

We had a killer whale (25' long? something like that) follow us about 50' back for 10 minutes or so just before we came back on soundings North of Anegada. Awesome. No turtles or dolphin (except the Mahi Mahi that we ate) this trip.

There's a wildlife park across Samana bay (I didn't get to check it out) that all who's gone have raved about, ask, Chicha the "dock boy", at Samana, about it

That was fast, Dave! Glad you made it there safe. Harvey, we saw two whales off the Caicos Bank yesterday but they were far away. Can't wait to see more off Samana! Check in at Luperon was $103 for us. Not exactly what we expected from others' instructions but still within reason. Hoping to make it straight to Boqueron in one shot on the next window but for now, it's time to explore the islan! (emphasys on "land")!

Once you get down to heaven, why go anywhere?

Ended up with the chance to deliver a Swan 47 from Oxford MD to Tortola. Sitting at the Mariner Inn now on free wifi.

*grin* Sometimes it's better to be lucky than smart.

Nine days offshore with good food, good company, and a well-found boat.

Where shall I go next?

Franc, on your way around the Samana peninsula keep an eye out for whales, I've seen them 5 out of the 7 times I've been out there. As many as 6 one time!
If you only have a short window, I'd consider a stop in Samana, it sure is different from Luperon! By the way, Mayaguez is quite open, you can go to Boqueron and get a publico to Mayaguez to check in. Other wise you have to climb up on this big commercial dock, have your dinghy beat up, and if a ferry or ship comes in you have to wait till they're all processed (about 1 1/2 hrs).
By the way, how much did it cost you to check in to Luperon, everyone seems to have been charged differently when I've been there. The check in for me (+ 1 crew) was $110., others as low as $85., yet others as much as$130.. I guess it depends on how broke they are. Samana was less on the take. See you soon. Harvey

We just arrived in Luperon, after 4 days of sailing straight from G-town with a 24h stop in French Cay, Turks & Caicos. Loving this new country already! A few days here and then on to the Mona Passage!
