Going North To St. Thomas

Posted on December 24, 2009 at 1:28pm 0 Comments

Well, hurricane season ended and now we are headed north with Wind Whisperer, Abasaroque, and Emerald Seas. We have had some great sails on the way north. Celebrated Thanksgiving at Saline Bay on Mayreau in the Tobago Cays. What a beautiful spot. The next day we sailed around to the Cays and snorkeled around the islands. We saw sea turtles, and lots of tropical fish on the reefs. The water was nice and clear and warm. The Cays are on the top of the list for must visit places if you like to… Continue

Spending time in Grenada

Posted on September 1, 2009 at 10:30pm 2 Comments

We have been in Grenada for over a month now and have had a chance to explore some of the bays that line the south coast. Each one has it's own personality and style. Some are very well protected and some are rolly. Some are handy to shopping and some are very isolated. If you are in the mood to get away from it all, you can find a place or if you like lots of action you can find that too. The people are very friendly and we feel very safe here. There was a burglary on a boat during Carnival… Continue

Grenada At Last

Posted on August 7, 2009 at 3:56am 0 Comments

Well, we are in Grenada and have been here for a week. Yee Haw it is great to know that we don't have to go anywhere for a while. We had some great sailing days down the islands and saw a lot of places that we want to visit after hurricane season passes. Just heard on the cruisers net that the hurricane season has been downgraded again. Although we are now officially out of the box according to our insurance company, we still keep a close eye on the weather in case something develops. That's… Continue

In The Virgin Islands

Posted on June 14, 2009 at 2:18pm 0 Comments

Hello Everyone :o)

I can't believe that it has been so long since I added a post to this blog. We are in the Virgin Islands! Yes we crossed the Mona Passage and spent time in Puerto Rico and now we are at St. Thomas. It is great to have the Mona in our rear view mirror. Our last big passage will be from Virgin Gorda to St. Martin and then it is south to Grenada for the Summer and Fall. We are enjoying St. Thomas and we had a good time in Ponce, Puerto Rico. Our sail from Ponce to St.… Continue

Provo to the Dominican Republic

Posted on May 6, 2009 at 2:30pm 3 Comments

We spent 10 days in the South Side Marina at Provo TCI enjoying the wonderful hospitality of Simon and Charlynn. We were waiting for a good weather window for the long trip to the Dominican Republic. Our wait paid off. Simon gave us waypoints for the trip from Provo to Ambergris Cay then through the reefs and off the Caicos Banks to Big Sand Cay and then from there to a waypoint on the north shore of the DR near Luperon. The motorsail to Ambergris was a little rough with choppy seas and winds… Continue

Comment by Liv 1 hour ago Delete Comment Sounds like your files are too big. You should reduce your photos, using some type of photo software. Then try again, upload a photo that is small in resolution.
Mine are not much bigger than 200 KB. . Comment by Jim Jackson 3 hours ago Delete Comment Well,
I just tried to upload a my guanadock photo and it didn't go. I haven't been able to upload any photos for some time now. Every time I try the little wheel spins for a long time and then I get an error message. I even tried to make the file smaller using the options on seaknots but no success. Any ideas?

Jim, I'm in Samana PR, on the South coast. I did roughly the same route you seem to be on (twice, 1st as crew for someone then on my own, Sea Bound) I hope to catch you on the way by. I've had my cat Smoky aboard since I left Boston and haven't had any trouble anywhere on your likely route. I did have to fork out extra in Luperon for the cat. I assume all their shots are up to date. I'd suggest having a half a dozen US $5.'s. for the upturned palms you'll find when you get to the DR. Georgetown, by now probably has 300 to 400 cruisers and is about as big a cruising community as you'll find anywhere. Also known as "Chicken Harbor" since most of those there now won't go any further than the Bahamas. OK by me, I don't much care for crowds anyways. Luperon will have about 1/10th of that, with a constant turnover of both north and south bound boats. After the isolation and poverty in Luperon Samana is a nice place to visit. Great bus service to the rest of the island, a much brighter place. Samana is the DR's vacation spot, with daily whale watch trips and usually a cruise ship anchored offshore. Transportations a snap there. Though I didn't get there theres a beautiful park across Samana bay (about 10 or 12 miles) everyone raved about.. Lookout for whales around the peninsula, I've seen anywhere from 2 to a half dozen on 5 of the 7 times I've been there. Anyways, have a great trip.
