What are your favorite things to do while on watch and off watch during long passages?

Hello Ladies! I was wondering what your favorite things to do are while on watch and off watch during long passages?

For me, I think I have a lot to learn and acquire on hobbies, etc. For now this is my input:

On watch: (besides sailing) Read up on the destination, magazines, books, fishing or sun tan.

Off watch: all of the above in addition to preparing the meals, cleaning and taking a nap.

In anticipation of this journey, I also brought books on how to learn to sew and how to splice lines. Those are still packed away for later in the trip.

I can't wait to hear your thoughts!

Thanks,
Andrea

Well I would paint and draw. Fish for sure...and clean up on the deck and below...But I have only been out in my boat 4 times with experienced sailors...You are all so ahead of me....I'm learning through all of you...I did just paint a boat painting and posted it on my page and the ART GROUP.
I saw it, it was lovely! I wish I could paint while underway...knowing me I would end up spilling the paint all over! :-)

We just learned how to fish off of the boat. It's pretty exciting. Right now we are all out of lures. We only bought 2 not knowing really how many we would need. I cannot wait until we are able to buy some more. I will post some pictures later of fish we caught so far.
I usually read or do crossword puzzles or just watch the water and sky. When reading, I stop and do a 360 visual check after every two pages. I go down below only long enough to grab a snack or a drink or use the head. Off watch, I nap or do chores or read or do small projects.

i FISH and watch the scenery--if at night i look at stars and moon, if there is one and have a goood time sailing boat. and take pix....lol and fish.....yummmmmmm....off watch i sleep and fish....lol.....and try to cook....we do 4 on , 4 off watches unless is storming then 2 on 2 off----that beats ye up bad----but works....

with my own formosa, which is a whole bunch easier to sail than the sloop we sailed in gulf of mexico,  we take longer watches-- reading, scanning horizon,  fishing cover most of the  daylight hours, at night---short naps when outside of shipping channels and away from  all afloat---pacific has many such areas. i still have to watch for rocks in wrong places and   fishing boats, as i am sailing coast of mexico and central america for a while.....

Zee, I loved Costa Rica...checked into living there...it is much like SA.  Please report on it when you get there....Maybe I can fly down and join you on a stretch....depending what turn my life may take.
