Armchair Sailing is not my new year's resolution!

Well, it looks like winter has reached coastal Texas. With the mercury in the low 40's and the recent rains, it is almost like de ja vu of my last home in Boston. Nothing like overcast skies and some cold wet rain to make you feel alive, right? With holiday celebrations, visiting friends and family, and all the extra cleanup involved, I bet many like myself have been stuck to armchair sailing this month. Ok, I admit, I did have an opportunity to join a group on a 1/2 day charter after Christmas, but the comfort of a soft couch, warm blankets, and hot coco took me to the dark side. Did I mention Christmas cookies? I did venture out on a 56' powerboat to participate in the 2009 Kemah Christmas boat parade. But that's not sailing now is it? I hope there is some truth to the "January thaw" that often occurs up north in New England every year and hope it reaches coastal Texas. There's a lot of water to sail down here even if it's "skinny water".

My new years resolution is to make every sailing opportunity count as an investment into the bank of memories to last a lifetime. None of us are getting younger so why wait or procrastinate? A little chilly? That's simply silly. The comfort of home? Why be alone? Why stare when you could be out there? Go now as time will allow. Never forget sailing's the best bet. A life at sea is a life being free......don't you see? It's the choice for me;-)
