I don't have a boat yet, but I plan on getting one as soon as I can. I'm thinking about a used live-a-board sail boat between 40 and 50 feet, my retirement plan. I'm currently living on the "big island" of Hawaii and I plan on getting back to Oahu soon. I'm looking forward to the life of a sailor, but for now, i'll live vicariously through you guys. Need to get over my sea sickness though.
Yea, Yer comment sounded a bit enstranged, near threat i took it. Though am new to forums and the to-the-point comments one must make to get a clear message across, I may have been vague on my comment. I did not mean to imply I would be "packin" nor did i mean "packin" is the only alternative to defend/prepare oneself in the case of being victimized. My point was whether we pack, carry a kat, leave brownies, build bomb shelters in our bilges, sleep in our crows nest with one eye open -the methods we practice should be confidential therefore leaving 'the element of surprise' for the intruder. "Mum's the word" here. I am however enjoying yer ramping on the subject, and am quite entertained. Yer thread is stirring the pot here on the site, which the site needed, i was gettin stuff done on my house cause i was bored here. Just wish the comments were easier to track rather than goin through ever page to find the latest.
Steve, Im cool with a readd to freind list. Please feel free to bring back to yer myspace page (we're I too abandoned ye). I know I've had to offend alot more with with my context, so I need to learn to not take things so personal i reckon.
read lats and atrts and latitude 38 and cruising world and sail magazine--look in archives for the piracy articles and articles about the robbing of the teams involved in th e baja 1000......is alll true and is all documentable and documented. some folks have been doing this for many years....have fun and dont be paranoid about piracy/robbery on high seas.
You ride a bike yet talk as if you are risk-averse when it comes to sailing d8^)
Cruising is the logical progression from motorcycling - even more freedom but more comfortable (Mostly). Lots of old bikers out there cruising.
Laura and I had both crossed the Pacific as crew on other boats both together and separately before this last trip in our own boat. Nothing scary out there. Bad weather just is. You learn to deal with it. Just don't set off on a world cruise in a boat designed for cocktails at the marina.
Just got an estimate from Keehi marina... not going to Oahu! Will be going to Gentry's soon and see what I'll need to haul out there. Bring those beautiful babes along and you can go sailing with me anytime!!
BTW- That half moon area is Molokini Crater and is a nature preserve. Google has some nice picts.
