One step forward, another one back

Yesterday my family and I were excited to make our first u-tube video together. Then, later in the day when I wanted to add another blog page with a picture as I had been doing the previous six days, the photo upload jammed. The little thing goes round and round indicating an upload is taking place, no photos appear, even after an hour.

So phooey on that. At least it isn't as costly or dangerous as the brand new Lewmar windlass is, but still I enjoy posting the pictures especially as… Continue

Begin with the end in mind...

Who hasn't heard this goal setting cliche? Come on, you know you have to decide what you want, so you will know it when it arrives. Of course you can always change your mind. After a heart wrenching demise of what I believe could be a wonderful relationship I reassessed my goal. Do I really want to solo circumnavigate or do I want a lifetime mate? Actually it is neither. I want to be happy. Like right now as I post this blog entry, my mind is focused on the keyboard while words flow from my… Continue

Enough is Enough

According to Dr. Vincent Ryan, a secret to life is knowing when Enough is Enough. Put to song, Barbara Streisand sings a bittersweet rendition of 'Have I Stayed to Long at the Fair?' And, so it is as I begin provisioning Spray for the next leg of her Sailing at Sixty adventure. Not as giddy and naive as when I left Palm Bay, Florida nearly one year ago, the fear of being alone has grown. I believe it was Tania Abei who reflected on her round the world adventure. The hardest part she said was… Continue

Holy Moly

Recovering from the shock of reality I am marinating in grief over my husband's death. About this time last year, I became enchanted with the prospect of having a mate. He is tall, with a thick head of hair. His smile is infectious and he told me what I wanted to hear. Oh, "how he wanted to learn to dance" he exclaimed as he put his arms around my waist as we sashayed across my kitchen floor. He has no children and was only married once some 20 years ago. His custom built sailboat is the type I… Continue

sam replied to Peter Obetz's discussion A/C thru hull caution!!!!! in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"Similarly, I changed out my aircon thru hull and valve a while back. Seems to be an issue. Recently, I was changing the aircon seawater pump and luckily found a valve on the distribution manifold (one pump serves two aircon units) that was fully…"

sam replied to Cam Whitlock's discussion Freezer problem in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"Mike nails the freezer (and Refrigerator) item. Remove the woodencovers on the vents, and if they have never been off you will most likely find a carpet of dust/hair/lint. I drilled small screw holes and added screws to re-attach. Now it is a…"

Mike Brown replied to Cam Whitlock's discussion Freezer problem in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"Cam, I used a wide, flat blade screw driver to pry it off. I took my time and made sure I wasn't forcing it and causing any dents or scratches. It took a little while to do but when done I had good access to the coils. One of the grills would…"

Cam Whitlock replied to Cam Whitlock's discussion Freezer problem in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"Mike - great information!  I was hoping that there is a way to remove the wood grills. What type of tool did you find worked that didn’t damage the wood?  "

Mike Brown replied to Cam Whitlock's discussion Freezer problem in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"Cam, keeping the coils clean is essential to max efficiency for both units. For whatever reason our 43 required constant upkeep to keep the coils clean. The wood grates are glued on but can be removed if you work at it using a tool that won't…"

Cam Whitlock replied to Cam Whitlock's discussion Freezer problem in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"Hey Mike - I agree with you that there is no physical problem with the unit running.  My problem is the drain on the battery.  As a weekend / once / twice a year cruiser, I don’t have solar to recharge my batteries (yet).  I…"

Mike Brown replied to Cam Whitlock's discussion Freezer problem in the group Beneteau 40 & 43
"We experienced the same thing on our B43 (now sold and gone). We were living aboard and cruising with a fairly full freezer. Like you did I changed out the thermostat without success. I wrote it off to the poorly insulated freezer compartment but…"
