The boat is modeled after old English Clippers. The Peacemaker was built in the late 1980s, but it wasn't until Capt. Lee Philips and his crew came along that the boat was finished. The crew is sailing the ship around the east coast and keeping the boat to its natural historic state.

"It was built by a private family in Brazil on the side of a river and they built it out of a Brazilian wood called ipe, which is ironwood. It is a very strong, stout vessel," Phillips said. "They were going to use it as a charter business. They just never finished, so it sat for eight years and then we picked it up and our young folks in our communities, they put it all back together."
Manning this vessel doesn't come without hours of hard work.

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."

"Michael, From experience over three keel boats a fully battened main is almost a requirement. Not only will it make dropping the sail into the boom bag far easier it certainly reduces any flogging and vastly lengthens the life of the sail. While…"
