SeaKnots

Hello, I'm new to this site, but I can already tell I will enjoy reading all of the interesting comments and opinions about the Chesapeake Bay.  I have been sailing on the bay for 13 years and I don't believe their is a better place to sail.  Most of my sailing has been spent crusing the upper and middle bay with a few casual Friday night raes thrown in.   I would like to participate in a few races this coming season and  I wanted to know if anyone had suggestions.  I have a boat that is totally a crusing boat with no racing blood in it at all.  I'm looking for races that have a 'cruising' class that are not too serious where I can race with a non-racing crew.  Thanks.

David, I'm not sure where you keep the boat but there is a group out of Georgetown on the Sassafras River that does some cruising class racing. I think they may be out of Sailing Associates. I knew of a guy with a B361 that raced his and that's where he keeps it. BTW what model Beneteau do you own?
Hi Mike, Thanks for the info. I sail my boat, a 2008 Beneteau 40, out of Haven Harbour Marina in Rock Hall.  That would be a bit of a sail for me but I'll keep it in mind.
Beneteau 40 has a PHRF rating of 120 ...not too shabby. You could, with little practice and some dedicated crew, give a great showing in any regatta.

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."

"Michael, From experience over three keel boats a fully battened main is almost a requirement. Not only will it make dropping the sail into the boom bag far easier it certainly reduces any flogging and vastly lengthens the life of the sail. While…"
