The Perfect Storm - the Westsail 32 was the survivor
Horatio Hornblower - lots of movies about his exploits, A&E series on CD is good.
Well all the Bounty Movies are good and Old man of the Sea...This is a good discussion...I thinkAlso I liked Castaway...altho not sailing...Can we add deserted Islands too?
If we can expand the list to sailing comedies, then all the Pirates of the Caribbean series. Who doesn't love Capt Jack Sparrow!!
"Wind,"" with Matthew Modine, Jennifer Gray (pre- and post-nose job) and Cliff Robertson. The America's Cup racing scenes are first rate.
lol, yes pre and post.

Although the acting wasn't top notch, I agree the sailing scenes were terrific!
I liked White Squall. Sad, but good. On the lighter side, Captain Ron was great.
I just seen Captain Ron, very entertaining.
In a pinch there is always Water World.
Master and Commander with Russell Crow...very good sailing movie.
Though not strictly a sailing movie, it does involve some sailing, but the thing I like most about Joe Vs the Volcano, is the full moon scene.
I'll toss in second votes for "Wind" and "Master and Commander". Both are outstanding.

And, while not a sailing movie, I was totally drooling in my lap watching that lovely Spirit Yacht that James Bond and Vespa sailed into Venice Harbor in "Casino Royale".

Hollywood really needs to create more sailing films and television programming. It's sad that I can watch Mixed Martial Arts cage matches or bullriding day or night, but very rarely do I see televised sailing events. I'm betting there are more sailors out there than there are rodeo riders!
I'm gonna have to add a 3rd for "Wind" ...yeah..some of the storyline is definately hollywood ...but the meat and potatoes of the movie is the swift depiction of racing ....all that is good ..and all that isnt so good ....still...if you dont like that ...you HAVE to enjoy the Aussie boats flying at breakneck speeds ...truly exhilerating to watch! I'll give a good second to Master & Commander as well ..they definately made the movie believable and enjoyable in its own rite.
Here's a more obscure European release that I really loved: THE WEIGHT OF WATER with Sean Penn. "The story of a troubled couple spending a tense working vacation on a sailboat with the husband's brother and his enticing girlfriend, and the story of a century-old murder on the New England island where they're anchored"

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."

"Michael, From experience over three keel boats a fully battened main is almost a requirement. Not only will it make dropping the sail into the boom bag far easier it certainly reduces any flogging and vastly lengthens the life of the sail. While…"
