Another Adventure

Tomorrow, day after Thanksgiving, we're off! Boarding "Second Wind" for a fourth time. The first time we were o/b was 3 years ago. We boarded her at Clarencetown, Long Island, Bahamas. We went from Clarencetown to the Turks and Caicos to Luperon in the Dominican Republic. We left the boat briefly then went from Luperon to Ponce, Puerto Rico. "Second Wind" belongs to Al, a friend of ours, although we didn't even know him when we… Continue

crew available

anyone interested in sharing expenses and enjoying acasual trip to and thru the carib in 2009 aboard a well equipped IP 31. Have no timetable or destination and open to suggestions. This is not a paying position, delivery, or charter. Just looking for someone like me who wants experience retirement while I can. ( I am happily married, but my wife would rather meet me at various ports rather than actually sail to them, so I am NOT looking for a partner as such) Thanks, Felix

Colgate's Basic Sailing

I'm busy studying the course material that the Offshore Sailing School has sent me. My course is on 22-24 April 2009. The initial basics I found quite easy. However, the further I get through the book, I find myself more and more relieved that I got the study material so long in advance. The detail they go into is extraordinary and I feel confident that I'm going to get the max out of this course and that my choice in sailing school was a very good one. The excitement for the possibilities that… Continue

ASA 104 Bareboat Charter

So I just returned this evening from a weekend aboard a newer Hunter 34 in Galveston Bay. Boy, the winds were honking on Friday night starting around 1030pm and didn't let up much until Sunday morning. We were screaming at over 7 kts on a run with the tide down the Houston Ship Channel and must have beaten a record for the sailing school in time getting down there.

Overall a great class and a great instructor (CAPT Jon). If you are interested in taking this class, you can't beat the… Continue

sailing in cold weather

12th Nov. 2008, my first entry.
I am Peter, retired.
I want to sail with my wife in the Vancouver area 2009 June to August. We saw three years ago from a ferry:
The region has fantastic landscapes looking from the sea.

Who has experiennce how to handle the coldness?

Of course, oils, gloves, stove, ...but the rest, like keeping a ventilation while the stove heats.
will a stove burn/heat when the boat rolls?

Thanks, Peter

Meet the founders

How a couple of cruisers created one of the biggest online raftups in America.

Everything started when Franc and Andrea met on the waters of the New York Harbor in the summer of 2000. They were both looking to get away from their busy lives in the big city when they discovered the Manhattan Sailing Club. All it took was a few day sails in the harbor and a charter… Continue

Meandering thoughts

Haven't blogged for a while since, thankfully, the hurricanes have left Florida alone after a very busy beginning of the season.

I see that Lola is busy with the female sailors group...TOO COOL!!! There are way too few of us gals out there so I am very proud to be part of it! Check it out.

Off sailing on the barge canal this weekend on Endless Wind. Am looking forward to that even though the weather here is getting cooler at night. It's true that the natives here… Continue
