SeaKnots

Yes, we know... SeaKnots can be addictive. But if you ever find yourself entangled in the process of establishing new knots with fellow sailors read below. Here are a few useful tips to maximize and enjoy your SeaKnots experience:

- Find other members: Want to find a member in your area? Want to know who's already been to your next destination? Perhaps someone with a particular type of boat? Use the Search feature at the top of any SeaKnots page and see what comes up! Don't be surprised if the guy across the dock is also a SeaKnots member!

- Invite others to join: Can't find your friends on SeaKnots? Don't leave them out. Be the first to tell them about this online community and they will thank you for life. Just click on Invite on the navigation bar at the top of any page and enter their email addresses with a brief personal message. When they sign up, they will automatically show up in your friends list.

Invite now

- Add friends to your profile: Creating a SeaKnots profile is like thowing an anchor in the middle of a beautiful cove. Throw your lines to the boats around you by adding them as friends and join the biggest virtual raftup on the Internet! All you have to do is click on "add as a friend" on any profile.

Accepting is even easier. When you see the sign below at the top of your page it means that someone wants to be your friend. Click on it and accept or decline. This allows your friends to be displayed on your profile as well.

- Join Groups: Are you into Beneteaus, Cals or O'Days? Do you cook on board or want to crew? Now you can join other enthusiasts in the Groups section. And if you don't find the group you are looking for, don't worry: just create it!

Create a group

- Post a question: Did you enjoy discussing boat names, your favorite stuff or your running aground stories with other members? Don't just answer others' questions. Ask your own. Just click on "Start a discussion" at the top ofthe Forum section and see how people respond. New questions are often featured on the SeaKnots front page so expect to hear back from other members soon!

Start a discussion

- Send a private message: One thing is to leave a brief comment on someone's page for everyone to see. But what if you want to get to know a member better but not in front of the whole SeaKnots community? No problem. Use SeaKnots' "Send a message" function available under the main photo on any profile and you'll be reaching that member in private.

Messages show up at the top of your page with this icon.

Click on the envelop and the SeaKnots Message Center will appear. You can then use that section just like regular e-mail.

- Share your postings: Did you post a photo, blog, forum question or video? Don't just let it sit there! Find the "Share" icon at the bottom of your entry and share it with all your SeaKnots friends in just one click or just enter your friends' email addresses. Don't be surprised if comments start pouring in from other members when they see what you posted!

- And here's the coolest tip: Update your page from the boat: Now you can submit photos or video directly from your cellphone. No need to wait until you get to your computer to share that wonderful sunset or the occasional dolphin visit with the rest of the world!

User Rebekah Lewis was banned from this network this morning. We have zero tolerance for that kind of behavior on SeaKnots.

On another topic, I received 3 emails this morning from someone who calls themself Rebekah Lewis, who has a website also posted re "schools issues" Our group sites are sailing oriented but what this person is promoting is oriented solely to their own views and strongly political. These emails appeared to go to a few of the groups that I belong to: singles sailing, sensible small boat cruising, female boat owners & cruisers......who knows how many other groups they also went to. I strongly object to having non-sailing issues posted on a sailing/cruising site. Don't know about the rest of you folks but I feel this person whoever he/she may be should be immediately deleted from this site. When I am into the sailing mode...don't want to deal with all this.....there are likely thousands of websites out there for people to view on this topic if they wish to do so.......Dianne

The new chat room is way too small and is ltd. Why fix what wasnt broken?
And wonderin why we all have different little icons by our names in the "latest activity" section, rather than our pics(which seemed more personalized.) Do the differents icons mean some peeps are more deserving than others and some mean others are less loved? What am I rated?

Please put the candy machine back in the breakroom!

Not too fond of the new chat configuration. The icons aren't clear, the font is tiny, and the whole thing conflicts with my ad-blocker. *grump*
