I am on my second GPS. Originally a Raystar 120 was fitted but after it failed a Raystar 125 was installed. I had been experiencing progressively troublesome issues with the 125 unit ( slow fix obtainment, occasional lost fix signals, etc) and thought it too was on its last leg. Research indicated that the 125 is no longer available and the 130 model is a ng (nmea 200 type) system and would require the adapter kit. Approximately a $400 fix. So more research and I found that there is a CR2032 button style battery in the GPS that can be changed. Simple fix. $6 vs $400!

Here is a picture of the GPS apart showing the battery.

Thanks Sam.  I always thought it was powered solely from the connection to the plotter.

Actually my raystar 120 faulted last summer I replaced the battery CR2032.. But when reconnected I guess I damaged the antenna as there are contacts that connect it to the top/lid.... So I ended up with the raystar 130 which does need the ST1 converter... But so you all know the converter needs to be powered... So ran 12v dc to the converter in the space behind the St60 instruments...

Sam, thanks for the post. Last year I experienced the same slow GPS fix on start up so did a search on causes. Found out about the battery and replaced with success. The hardest part was pulling the propane locker to gain access as ours is deck mounted on the port aft corner.
