Friends for a Reason March 26, 2014 Year 2 Month 3 Day 68

Wow, I am back on track with the blog chronology. One of these days I will get a hard copy printed in case the sea knots god decides to stop sponsoring this wonderful site. After a great week of actually sailing to neat places I am back in a shipyard. The good thing is in the early evening I take the time to appreciate what I have in life.

Mostly, I have family, friends, and acquaintances. Family represents those who I am…

Repairs and Upgrades on my Boat

It's an ongoing effort  as I can afford, I am upgrading the boat, for when I start my off shore adventures.

Today got the Auto Pilot in Place.  We put the compas in the bilge.  Ran wire down the pedestal, into Aft Berth,,,around engine to high spot in Bilge.  Made a change, and mounted the auto pilot in the old housing for the speed meter..it is a much better…

Taking the plunge, , ,

Step one, ready to buy as soon as I find what I want:

What I want is an ocean going multihull in the 35 foot range. As an experienced skipper of a Corsair F28, I have an idea of what to expect. Weighing the pros and cons of a tri versus a cat are on my agenda as is comfort versus speed. Typically, I favor speed over comfort but because my next boat needs to take me around the world via the Panama Canal and more temperate climates, being seaworthy and user friendly for single handing… Continue

Going North To St. Thomas

Well, hurricane season ended and now we are headed north with Wind Whisperer, Abasaroque, and Emerald Seas. We have had some great sails on the way north. Celebrated Thanksgiving at Saline Bay on Mayreau in the Tobago Cays. What a beautiful spot. The next day we sailed around to the Cays and snorkeled around the islands. We saw sea turtles, and lots of tropical fish on the reefs. The water was nice and clear and warm. The Cays are on the top of the list for must visit places if you like to… Continue

Bluemapia: share your sailing destinations and nautical points of interest on a public map.

We believe that sailors are the best source of sailing information.

That is why my friend Max and I created bluemapia, an open content sailing and cruising guide, where people from all over the world can write about the places they have visited by boat: bays they love, safe anchorages they know, best marina services they have found or charming villages where to stop for a night.…

Bimini To Berry Islands

After waiting 10 days for a weather window we set off for Nassau and the Berry Islands at the end of February. Sail Flow promised 10 to 12 knot winds with calming seas. What we got was 18 to 25 knot winds with 7 to 9 ft. seas! It was dark by the time we reached Mackie shoals and the thought of dropping the hook in the dark with big waves pounding our boat did not have any appeal. We decided to press on towards the Northwest Channel. Turning south meant we started taking the sea on our beam. If… Continue
