In 2006 I was coaching a team at the Student Yachting World Cup held that year in Lorient France. Here I am visiting the Maxi Catamaran Orange and the shipyard. This place was amazing. Cetainly the WWII history is significant, but now the place is the foremost technilogically advanced race yacht manufacturer in France. Groupama, Delta Dore, Ecouver among others were built there. Amassed were at least 25 Mini Transat boats. There is also a museum for the WWII submarine facility.

Hi Lola,
Are you using your beer goggles to look at the photo?
Thanks for the very kind compliment.
France is one of my favorite places to go.
The food, people, language, culture and especially BOATS!
They have built a new yachting center named for Eric Tabarlay about 500 meters from this pier.
Very nice town. Too bad Lorient was completely destroyed during WWII except for the cement structures the German's built. Even where France has their Naval Academy south of Brest, the existing cement structures built by the Germans in WWII are utilized as the basis for locating the Academy and industrial shipping port.
