Strange isn't it? We have loving feelings in our heart for the one living person who knows us longer and perhaps better than anyone. This person is the first in our family to help out whoever is in need. She was at my house so fast the day my husband died my friends and I were amazed. Jane is realistic with my daily trials and tribulations regarding finances and relationships with men. She loves having candy in beautiful bowls decorating her kitchen, living room, and den. Her artistry with stained glass and photography is carefully choreographed. She has sailed with me on my Hobie 14, took a charter cruise, joined me on the Family Day sail around the Statue of Liberty and always welcomes me to her home.

Oh yea, we have our quirks and ways of annoying each other. That is what adds to my sadness. Of all the things I want her to know, I want her to hear me when I say she is the most special person in my life. Leaving her today to return to SPRAY while I ready my life for parts unknown is one of the scariest days of my life.

If you have a person in your life who has known you since birth and meets the criteria of a sister, do include her in your sailing adventures. Live vicariously in each other's lives. Envy their landlubbing familial style. Having raised 4 responsible children and making her grandkids a priority, its easy to be jealous of what I was unable to accomplish. Its just that well, we came from the same ingredients, but someone we came out of the mold a different flavor.
