If you have not been following teen Jessica Watson on her quest to be the youngest person to sail solo non stop around the world, you should give it a look. Amazing girl. I publish about her from time to time on, and cover the America's cup, coming up Feb 8.

I think northern California sailors are a fiercely independent lot.

I just saw your link to the examiner page. Good to see someone covering boating in mainstream media.

Ahoy Friends,
Well, we did our BVI trip a coulpe of weeks ago......What a blast!! The eight of us went out for a week on a 45' cat, the Dodger II and it was tremendous. The British West Indies is wonderful. Great sunsets, very nice people and super conditions. (A little pricey at the restaurants - but we only ate off the boat 1 lunch and 2 dinners)
Everyday was warm (82-85degrees), the water crystal clear and the wind was 10 to 18 knots. I sailed into a different cove every night. We did the beach/bar thing, alot of snorkeling and a few dives. The boat was beautiful and FAST - I was flying the jib alone on one morning in 15 knots - clipping at a steady 7+ knots - WHAT A BLAST!
Thanks to everyone who provided info on the sites and places to see/eat/drink. My newby crew did a very good job and a great time was had by all. Can't wait to go to Australia/New Zealand in 2010!
Cya out there on the wind.

Hello, all! We sail our Catalina 27 in the delta from the Stockton Sailing Club We have, in the past, sailed from San Francisco to San Diego on a C&C 30, but now that the years are piling on, we limit our sailing to the river.

Ahoy NorCal Sailors ~
Hey all, we went out for a day-sail the other day in the Delta on our 33' Pearson. Did a little fishing (no Stripers) and had a great meal. The water was silky flat with very little wind (no biggie). All in all a nice day!!
I'm heading out in a couple of weeks on a bare-boat charter in BVI. Taking the wife & 3 other couples out on a 45' cat for 9 days. Can't wait!!! Let me know if you can suggest anything. I'll let you know when I get back how things went. Take a look at my blog if you want to comment on the BVI trip.

I am a native N. Californian, however these days I live in Hampton, VA. My family is still in CA, so I get there a couple times a year. I learned to sail on SF Bay and was there in Sept. I had the most wonderful sail on the bay while I was there. I love the Chesapeake Bay for cruising, but nothing can compete with the views of the SF bay!
