I am planning a cruise down the coast to Port A for spring break and contemplating purchasing a dingy before I go, I would be interested in anyones input about types or brands. I have looked into some of the hard bottom inflatables which seem popular, but I worry about the dog puncturing the tube when getting on and off. I have seen some small wooden ones around that can also sail and wonder about how hard they are to stow on deck during off shore passages or rough weather. I have a little kingfisher now its inflatable and a verry wet ride. I have not tried moving provisions or anything with it.

Inflatables are a lot easier to handle and store. Look at Achiles or Zodiac (or the West Marine version) of their inflatables. The sport boats have slip in wooden or fiberglas floors and the hypalon is thick enough that your dog won't puncture it. I've had an Achiles 9.6 for over 20 years and it's almost as good as new. If I carry it on deck, I turn it upside down on the foredeck.
caribe, avon, achilles--aquasport--all are good for doggies---i had each---the rigid bottom would be better so you donot have to repatch the floor because of toe nail punctures....
Ok I ordered the advanced cat from west marine and aquired an old outboard 6 hp to power it. I will let you know how I like it. Does anyone have any sage advice for towing, storing, exploring the area??? Who's going out this weekend? TMCA is having a lunch at redfish Sat.
