Has anyone added a downwind sail, like an asymmetrical spinnaker?   I would like to keep it as simple as possible, so I do not want a standard spinnaker with a pole.  I would need an additional halyard. Anything else?

Hi Gary,

I added an asymmetrical spinnaker last year and I'm pretty happy about it.

ATN sock, 913.97 sq feet tri-radial 1.5 oz Ripstop nylon from NeilPryde sails for something around 2300$ total.

Easy sailing with my wife and me on my B40. Jybing is a breeze!

Check the pdf file for the gear specs, that should be helpful.

Wooaaa!!!

After seeing that I'm not buying a spinnaker!

Just kidding, I have an asym spinnaker. Not sure that's the best flick for trying to impress. Looks like that spinnaker is about to fill with water. Did it?

I have added a asymmetrical to my B 40. You will need the following to handle the sail efficiently.

Halyard and down haul lines

Downhaul led aft

2 sheet stoppers for halyard and downhaul - note - picture shows only one sheet stopper, I added a second.

Turning block at mast for halyard.

Use the existing line organizers to lead line aft.

You only need a pole on light winds when the wind angle is 165 on either side.

I added a pole, pole lift line, pole car and lines and clam cleats to adjust car and pole lift halyard. But then I came from racing performance side of sailing.

I met Bob from NeilPryde at the Annapolis show last year. I had some questions about my setup and he was very helpful. He also sent the attached helpful guide. From an equipment standpoint NP's recommended setup includes the roller beads to allow the tack to easily move up and down. I have them and they work but I see other setups without them.
