I am relatively sure that it is high density polyethylene (HDPE) produced via blow molding or rotational molding process.

Simo,
The tanks are easily repaired with either a hot air plastic welding gun or at a pinch a soldering iron. Experience with oxy welding will assist with the filling technique and many people use strips of plastic from an ice cream container as a "welding rod" or more easily contact your local plastic welder. Hopefully if the crack is on the top it should be possible to repair it in situation.
Good luck,

Thanks. Unfortunately I had to remove the tank for repair. The material is PE. Finally got the PE hot air welding rods from Germany and got it fixed. (Tried first with HDPE rods but the melting temp difference was to high.)
