As I said before, we (4 couples) are bare-boating a 45' cat for 9 days in January. We are looking for additional suggestions for great anchorages, great food, nightlife, caution spots, etc. We have received several ideas, and as it gets closer to the trip, I am asking for any additional suggestions that we should see.
Anything current that we should know would be greatly appreciated as well!
We love to party, and we also enjoy basking in the sun at beautiful…

My name is Peter. Retired.
I want to buy an older (25-30 Years) glassfibre sailboat and after two to three years of use sell it, with the feeling I im not fooling the buyer.
Theoretically, when plastic ages, it should loose elasticity. On the long term it would shrink and develop cracks, become brittle, while the glassfibre may hold everything in place or break.
Has anybody experienced if this can be felt? Maybe heard, perhaps with groans or squeaking…

Three days ago, we stepped off the plane in Antigua and the tropics hit us in the face. The smells of the Caribbean arrived on warm, tropical breezes. Al’s bags didn’t arrive! Claudia and I carried our baggage on, so that wasn’t a problem for us. Al’s insulin was in his bag so he had to watch his sugar intake. By the time we got to the marina, the tiki bar was open. Al got a wrm reception from the b ar’s owner, Alicia, who said she owed him some money so we had a rum, two…

Now that I live in the south, you would think that the weather is sunny, warm, and beautiful all year round. Well, as I've come to find out, that isn't necessarily true. The mercury has been fluctuating almost as wildly as the market lately. It's hard to believe it's December. The prevailing winds are a little more stiff and they appear to push water from Galveston bay leaving skinny water just about skim. The sailing will not be quite as regular as during the summer season, but at least it…

Another Adventure
Tomorrow, day after Thanksgiving, we're off! Boarding "Second Wind" for a fourth time. The first time we were o/b was 3 years ago. We boarded her at Clarencetown, Long Island, Bahamas. We went from Clarencetown to the Turks and Caicos to Luperon in the Dominican Republic. We left the boat briefly then went from Luperon to Ponce, Puerto Rico. "Second Wind" belongs to Al, a friend of ours, although we didn't even know him when we…

anyone interested in sharing expenses and enjoying acasual trip to and thru the carib in 2009 aboard a well equipped IP 31. Have no timetable or destination and open to suggestions. This is not a paying position, delivery, or charter. Just looking for someone like me who wants experience retirement while I can. ( I am happily married, but my wife would rather meet me at various ports rather than actually sail to them, so I am NOT looking for a partner as such) Thanks, Felix

I'm busy studying the course material that the Offshore Sailing School has sent me. My course is on 22-24 April 2009. The initial basics I found quite easy. However, the further I get through the book, I find myself more and more relieved that I got the study material so long in advance. The detail they go into is extraordinary and I feel confident that I'm going to get the max out of this course and that my choice in sailing school was a very good one. The excitement for the possibilities that…

So I just returned this evening from a weekend aboard a newer Hunter 34 in Galveston Bay. Boy, the winds were honking on Friday night starting around 1030pm and didn't let up much until Sunday morning. We were screaming at over 7 kts on a run with the tide down the Houston Ship Channel and must have beaten a record for the sailing school in time getting down there.
Overall a great class and a great instructor (CAPT Jon). If you are interested in taking this class, you can't beat the…

12th Nov. 2008, my first entry.
I am Peter, retired.
I want to sail with my wife in the Vancouver area 2009 June to August. We saw three years ago from a ferry:
The region has fantastic landscapes looking from the sea.
Who has experiennce how to handle the coldness?
Of course, oils, gloves, stove, ...but the rest, like keeping a ventilation while the stove heats.
will a stove burn/heat when the boat rolls?
Thanks, Peter

How a couple of cruisers created one of the biggest online raftups in America.
Everything started when Franc and Andrea met on the waters of the New York Harbor in the summer of 2000. They were both looking to get away from their busy lives in the big city when they discovered the Manhattan Sailing Club. All it took was a few day sails in the harbor and a charter…

Haven't blogged for a while since, thankfully, the hurricanes have left Florida alone after a very busy beginning of the season.
I see that Lola is busy with the female sailors group...
TOO COOL!!! There are way too few of us gals out there so I am very proud to be part of it! Check it out.
Off sailing on the barge canal this weekend on Endless Wind. Am looking forward to that even though the weather here is getting cooler at night. It's true that the natives here…

This is the year of my final transmutation. It began four years ago when I gave away my television. All changes heretofore, have been in favor of convention; societal norms and mores; aversion to sanctions. Now is the time to foresake the conventions of land for the wild anarchy of the seas. The sanctification and restoration of my soul. I have taken inventory of my needs; a sturdy ship beneath my feet, white sails above my head, clothes, tools, and one lonely ten dollar guitar. I will have no…

When super heroes fly to the rescue of those in need, they are usually dressed in a cape and wearing their underpants on the outside.
But when sailing hero Pete Goss and the crew of Spirit of Mystery left their underwear in a launderette in Newlyn before they commenced their epic voyage to Australia via Cape Town, it was their turn to be rescued by an air drop of a very…

My blog presents an unvarnished and, hopefully, a sometimes humorous view of a first mate's view of the cruising life. Would love for other first mate's to add their comments on this strange life we've chosen.
