Hello! I'm a new sailboat owner, my very first, it's a 1992 28' Catalina. I have sailed her a few times, but still getting my feet 'wet' (haha). Looking forward to learning from all of you and sharing funnies from my adventures!

Hey, Hey, its supposed to warm up here for the first time in several weeks, so I am headed to the lake might unwinterize the whole boat, well most of it, lol...I am getting the fever, but will go sailing thats for darn sure..... time to get that big Catalina on the lake let her strech her sea legs....soon will get her in to some big water, maybe make the bay someday, I hear there a some 42s on the bay, big sailing there, right Kevin? well, lil more porto then bed, lol...cheers all, hang in there Terri spring is on its way, I can smell it....its in the air....

Welcome aboard Joe! I'm sure you'll love your C-27...they are relatively fast,well mannered, and comfortable. If you have any questions, don't hesitate to ask. Being fairly new to sailing, I usually defer to others for advie, but once in a while I chip a bit of wisdom I have found. Happy sailing!

Hello, I've a 1980 C27 standard rig which I bought at the end of '08. I only got to sail her a few times before having to haul her out for the winter. Looking forward to spring!

The point about some yahoo running an extension cord is probably spot on. Crib boards can be replaced, but they are a little spendy. I would try to rscue th old ones before opening the wallet for new ones, myself.

Are there vents in the hatch boards?

Hatch boards are a pretty easy DIY woodworking project. Some people also carry additional boards with screens for ventilation or Lucite for light.

The cover sounds like a very reasonable expedient. I think you can deal with the mildew by washing it periodically.

It would be useful to figure out how the water is getting in and address that directly, which would obviate the need for the cover.

Not to belabor the obvious, but are there any AC breakers on your electrical panel? That would certainly be a clue.

Can you follow the wires from behind one or both outlets?

The big Marinco shore power outlets are a bit expensive. Sometimes Barry Boatowner does something strange like hard-wire in an extension cord to plug into the dock - check the backs of your cockpit lockers for a coil of extension cord with one end disappearing into the boat. If your cockpit lockers open into the space under the cockpit look under there as well. I know of a J/30 with the cord under the galley sink.
