I know this is a response to an old post, but Mike, did you make your crossing and if not, what was we're the deciding factors?

I, too, have a 1979 Cal 31. Information about them seems to be pretty scarce. I'm setting mine up for cruising the Caribbean in the next couple of years. I've got the Volvo Penta MD7A version. Any information you come across about the boat or motor would be helpful. So you think it's stout enough to take across the Pacific? While a trip like that isn't in my immediate plans, it's nice to know it's possible.
I love my Cal-31 but you should know her shrot commings before setting out on your adventure
