Hello,

Has anyone experienced a rupture of one of the rear pulpit fixations ?

An idea to fix it and to reinforce it would be welcomed.

I think it gets a lot of tranversal load when boarding from the tender.

Thank you for your help.

I'm in the process of doing exactly what Ed has done. I have the bits and pieces just need to install them. BTW I bought a stainless grab handle from West Marine and installed it to the right of the cockpit entrance when boarding from a dinghy. So no real need to grab the stern rail now when climbing up out of the dinghy.

Thank you Ed and Mike,

This shows that some stainless steel bolts have probably some stress fracture and corrosion.

For the moment I will have it fixed. My idea is to weld a nut as big as it will fit in the stanchion and bolt it with sealant with a backing plate. If it is feasable in the same time we will weld a handle on the transom with a backing plate inside.

Of course I am going to check the other fixations but I  think this is probably the one getting the most load with the boarding and the outboard that is around 35kg. Beneteau must know this is a weak spot since they recommend a maximum weight of 20 kg for the outboard.

In fact very easy to fix. The thread is way to long so we shortened it and had it welded under argon and bolted with backing plate in less than an hour.

The modifications will be done during the winter.

Thanks for your advice.

Denis
