SeaKnots

I have read the Nigel Calder book on Lightning Protection, but still at a loss on the actual hardware needed.

Basically He said to install a masthead "antenna like" receptacle and use a large conductor straight to the sea by way of earthing plate.

This will involve drilling my hull again. Something I am reluctant to do lightly.

Has anyone installed a similar set up in the past?

Your advise appreciated.

Bill,

What would you use as the antenna?

Here in Australia there is a company named www.moonraker.com.au and their 3 meter (10 ft) LPS rod is A$ 497 + 10% VAT. That is close to US$ 380.

If it is just a solid Aluminium rod, say with 3/4" OD + a base plate that is anodized. I can get it made, perhaps for a lot less.
