The plastic grills on my cockpit speakers have finally given into the environment conditions and are crumbling. While the speakers still function, seems the Poly Planar MA4054 speakers installed have built in grills, so no grill replacement options. The same replacement speakers are very reasonable priced and easily accessible here in the states. However, would like to have a bit better sound if I am going to replace them and am thinking about upgrading to 6" speakers. Have not taken a close look at the boat to determine if enough space is available for the larger speakers, but am assuming there will be plenty of space.

Has anyone done an upgrade that you are happy with?

Take a look at Polk speakers. Not sure what they have today but they did have water proof models that fit the original openings. I think it was 4”. Good sound too.

I replaced the original speakers with Fushion speakers. I did a straight trade in terms of size, so no issues there. I’ve been quite happy with the sound. Mostly, I really like the fushion receiver which I also upgraded.

Thanks for the input guys. Was down on the boat looking at it a bit closer yesterday. Once thing I noticed is that the existing speakers have an extremely low profile, meaning they are almost flush with seat/bench face. This will be a must have as I don't want the grills or covers to protrude any further. I will have a closer look at the fusion and Polk speakers.

"Auto ascending setup is an interesting idea, though it takes a bit of fiddling around to get it right. Once it's dialed in, it actually works quite well."

"Michael, From experience over three keel boats a fully battened main is almost a requirement. Not only will it make dropping the sail into the boom bag far easier it certainly reduces any flogging and vastly lengthens the life of the sail. While…"
